Discussion / Babel on AoPc?
« on: April 25, 2013, 00:34 »
I haven't played much DoomRL under the current version, and I'm not too familiar with the new layout.
I was running a few AoPc games trying to get those lower badges(I have gold from a previous version where that only required completing AoPc), and ran into some trouble at Babel.
Is there a way to run past the Cyberdemon, like with the Bruiser Brothers? Is there a staircase I didn't find? Or do you have to be lucky enough to find an invulnerability powerup on the previous level, like with the old full wins? I had to drop my nuke and settle for Bronze, and I'd like to do better next time.

Before him 294 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
250 of those were killed.
14 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 23 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.
Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 7 souls claim to have killed him...
2 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
5 killed the bastard and survived.

Very lucky AoPc win, my first and probably last. Happened awhile ago, before I was a member of the forums, so I don't remember all the details - just figured I may as well post it.

Requests For Features / Re: Multiplayer mode
« on: January 27, 2011, 11:18 »
Well, what I'm saying is that it is possible to convert a roguelike game to a multiplayer mode.
I don't know exactly how well that translates between Angband and DoomRL, as they have very different playstyles - I'm just saying that it has been done before, and that if anyone was curious as to how to go about doing it, they might find some useful information over at MAngband.
I'm not necessarily suggesting or requesting that it be done, just providing a bit of information to anyone interested.
It's also quite a decent game, if any Angband players are around that wanted to give it a try - might even download the latest client and try it(again) myself, between rounds of Doom, of course.

Requests For Features / Re: Maze level type- is it really necessary to have them?
« on: January 26, 2011, 19:47 »
I also like mazes, they're among the safest of levels for me.
They do take awhile to navigate, but I can't really see that being a problem for anyone other then an AoPc, AoRa, or a Compet-N/Icarus game.
Going for 100% kills could be a problem, I suppose, but moreso for AoRa then AoB (at least as far as my experience would lead me to believe - AoB is always easiest in small, confined space[for me], but an AoRa trying to clear a maze level had better hope for Invulnerability).
Edit: After checking the current built-in challenges, AoHa and AoRa are the only Angels required to complete 100% kills. AoB/100% is strictly optional as far as I can tell.

Requests For Features / Multiplayer mode
« on: January 26, 2011, 19:31 »
The old topic for this is closed, or I would have posted there.
I'd just like to bring attention to http://mangband.org/, a multiplayer roguelike game that has been in existence for over ten years. I used to play quite often, although I haven't played in several years - a quick check of the site showed me that the servers are still running and the game is actively maintained, however.
In any case, if anyone were to become interested in developing a multiplayer version of DoomRL, the MAngband forums or IRC channel(#mangband on irc.perl.org if I remember - that seems rather dead at the moment, however) might be a good place to start.

Requests For Features / Re: slight command tweaks
« on: January 26, 2011, 19:21 »
Presumably the goal of a melee attack against doors is to allow AoB to clear paths for strategic barrel placement.
This could be done in other ways, I would expect - my suggestion would simply be to allow barrels to be moveable through open doors.

Century Lounge / Re: [M|Ao100|YAAM] My first (and last?) successful Ao100 run
« on: January 26, 2011, 09:49 »
Not bad - Ao100 is my next Challenge goal, although I've had limited luck with it so far.
Also, I note you are level 20 - wasn't aware that was possible; should make Ao100 runs a bit less challenging provided I can survive long enough.

Discussion / Re: Searching for JC...
« on: January 23, 2011, 22:45 »
I've only once had the proper level 24 conditions to try JC, and was unfortunately playing an AoRA at the time, so my fuse was a bit too long...
I know of no way to guarantee those conditions, however, so I'm trusting to the RNG to finally allow me to meet him.

Discussion / Re: Favourite Master Traits?
« on: January 23, 2011, 22:42 »
I almost always work toward an Ammochain build, unless I'm playing an Angel that restricts the type of gameplay it works for.
I also included Gun Kata and Army of the Dead in the vote - I've had more success with AoMr then any other Angel type, due largely to Gun Kata; and Army of the Dead is my preferred AoSh Master trait.
Then again, I'm still just beginning to play, so I have alot to learn about more advanced tactics.
