Title: Multi Story Levels
Post by: Anticheese on January 23, 2006, 21:54
Hi, I beleive that having multiple story's (floors) on some levels would make a  really neat addition.

In Doom I,II and III multi story levels were common and provided a third element to the challenge - The Z dimension.

I can see some ways to do this, Either by staircase that the character walks up on, Via elevator or by teleport.

Thoughts anyone?

1 problem:

Player sees stairs.
Player goes down stairs.
Player realises that this is level 7-1, not level 6-B1.
Player misses several kills, items and exp.
Player gets out shotgun and blows up computer in anger.

And that is why for "This level stairs" we do not use the </> tiles..

Oh, I get it now. It would be easier to fit in the bigger levels people want that way.

Exactly, How many times in any doom game people here have played (be it doom I, II or III) that you have seen the effects of starcases in expanding the level? Or elevators too for that matter.

In DoomRL, Unlike Nethack the '>' can be seen to not mean the staircase but rather the button you hit at the end of the level. Just like to clear that one up.
