Title: The Big Jump Poll
Post by: Kornel Kisielewicz on January 12, 2009, 04:22
Okay, it'll not happen the next release, but at 0.9.9 I will break player.dat/score.dat compatibility (it SEVERLY needs a rehaul). That means that all player data will be lost. I could write a converter, but it would take a lot of time, and produce results that could be silly or meaningless. Also, it'd take away the fun of the new system of unlocks that is planned.

So, I ask you, how would you react for breaking the compatibility?

Voted middle option.

Oh, no-one else did? Bah. Now I look like a whiny baby.

I'm not trying to complete any of the challenges required for higher ranks because there's no point in doing so if i know that player.dat won't be compatible in next release. So i was waiting for that complete player.dat change, and after that (when i will know that it won't change again), i will have motivation to go higher.

I voted for the first one. I am currently a Hell Baron General with little prospect of improving since I have not yet completed a Nightmare game and I don't want to spend the time to kill 100,000 enemies.

So I welcome a clean slate. It will give me the feeling of achieving things again. :)

The only thing I dread is having to complete the Masochism challenge again. That one was really hard for me.

I plan not to play again until the AI has been upgraded.  Too many of my strategies rely on the monsters' stupidity.  A new rank system would be a nice bonus to that upgrade.

So long as it doesn't get broken every few games in the next version, do whatever you like with it. :|

Dooooo eeeeeet
/me breaks player.dat on a knee

Seriously, you'll have to do it sooner or later, so better to do it now, and be done with it. Also I think I remember a topic and a poll about the same thing from before "great silence"

I'll keep 9.8.10 for the sake of cheating, and make a fresh start on 0.9.9

...

What?

I've alrady had to start over several times because my computer is a pile. this one will be the worst though, since A. it's planned, and B. I'm THIS close to Major, and probably halfway to Colonel once i do AoP. speaking of which, that got a lot easier when i realized that medikits still work >_< got my challenges confused

It's OK for me, I'll take a backup of my old one anyway.

I voted "sure".

I've hardly been playing DoomRL lately, and when I thought about why, I figured it's really not that the game "got old", or anything like that. It's just that there've been so many promises for a new and improved DoomRL, that I've been waiting patiently, instead of making a lot of progress, just to lose it to a change just like this one. So, I have no player.dat to lose :)

Looking forward to a new and improved DoomRL! :)
Though I don't know how you've managed to avoid naming it 1.0.0 after all this time - the game's been great for ages, even if you'd like it greater. I think it has long deserved the recognition :)
