Many people point out that to achieve more success with roguelike games I should target the mobile device market. This made me wonder, what kind of mobile devices the roguelike target audience owns? Mark all that are applicable! Vote also if you don't own any (mark only the last option).

None. And I won't have one in close (or far) futre.
-
I have none of the listed. And I don't think I ever will have. I could play Doom RL on a mini-laptop if I wanted though.
-
Nintendo Ds (and recently bough too) - GBA backwards compatiblity FTW :P
-
I have a Java-enabled Nokia... I dunno, does that count as a smartphone? It's just a mobile phone tho I did check smartphone "(^^,)
Tho, I would find more roguelikes made for JavaME for normal mobiles (such as Dweller) *very, very cool*. I'd be glad if you (or any other RL developers) could make those.
Oh and thinking of it, tho a bit offtopic, what about that Telnet multiplayer DoomRL idea? Is it going to be made? That'd be pretty fricking cool too, hee hee V(^^,)

I play DoomRL on my laptop. Does it count?
(Oh, and I also have a GBA, but somehow I doubt that you'll be interested in making cartridges for that one...)

I own a psp slim whit ten DVD full of games because I have CFW
-
PSP for me.
A PSP version of DoomRL...A dream that I may never see realized...*sigh*

I voted iPhone, but i don't have one. I'll be getting one shortly, though.

S60v3 unsigned apps-enabled N95 8GB. Rocks and beats as**s of MANY mobile devices imho, period.
Very few has that many multimedia functions - 5 MPix, WIFI, GPS receiver, organiser, MP3/video device, along with N-Gage 2.0, many apps written by users, GBA emulator [crashes on some newer titles, though, but Advance Wars and Golden Sun can be played fluently] and many, many more.
Beat that ;)

I reckon that the options that allow downloading of games will be the ones you will find the most successful. (PSP and most mobile phones) Considering there is already a DoomRPG (for mobile phones [beaten it, it's too short]), DoomRL might not appeal to too many, especially if it's graphic-less.
The main problem with porting to mobiles is the size requirements. PSP users will have a larger playing field of space to work with, but they will expect more, considering their "amazing graphic" opportunities.
You might be able to hook in traffic on the Wii - give them a full version game they can download, which they can transfer to their DS to take with them (until they turn the power off). Prospects seem slimmer there. But still worth a consideration.
Oh, and DS, and Java phone. Nintendo can only survive by innovating, while Sony and Microsoft have core backers with contracts signed for years, so they don't have the same stimulus. My opinion, anyhow.

Personally, I would love to see DooM RL on the DS. I have Powder on that (I used to play it on my GBA before that.) and it works really well. The DS homebrew scene seems, to me, to be a little more receptive to such things.
Slightly OT: I would also love to see it on the Wii as well. Again, I have Powder on that as well as a RL called meritous. It's also easy to update on the Wii through the Homebrew Channel and the Homebrew Browser. :)

I'd absolutely love to see DoomRL on the Ds. I have a linux emulator on my DS, but I've had no luck getting doomRL to work with it, so just bear in mind you've got people going to large lengths to get your game on their DS, and failing... I'd buy DoomRL on the DS in a heartbeat.

Heh wow, can a DS handle such things? (And run apps on it with a FPS higher than 2 per sec? :p)
-
Haha, no, it's text-only, and you need a memory expansion to run it.
That being said, the DS is an absolute beast for emulation. You can emulate anything up to and including a neogeo pretty much flawlessly. Ports are impressive too - check out the quake 2 ds port on youtube for one of the most impressive examples.
