Title: Game freezes on Linux
Post by: Burzmali on October 13, 2009, 18:37
Just confirming that the problem listed at http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,1479.0.html is still affecting Ubuntu 9.04.

Running 0.9.8.10 straight from the download, I get no music, but I do have sound.  Game freezes after a few minutes of real time, always when I am acting.  I have had it happen while opening a door and attacking a target.

the new version will be released soon so if the crash happens again in 0.9.9 version you can report it again.

SDL_mixer related bug. Fixed, wait for 0.9.9 :)

This problem seems tied to the MID files, music works fine if you switch to the MP3s.

I am still having this issue in 0.9.9, but it appears to work just fine if I turn off sound and music.

I can confirm this issue still remains in 0.9.9. Yes turning off sound and music renders it playable. But that makes the game so much less awesome.* =[

*It is of course, still awesome. Just less.

Edit: Turning off just the music works too. I ran strace. It freezes on a futex syscall. Not much help there.

I'm afraid that it's a Doom-midis vs SDL_mixer on linux bug. Using MP3's fixes that.

In any case, you should be using the MP3's anyway. Infinitely more awesome than the MIDI's :P
