I know a nintendo DS port is likely out of the question, but I just have to mention that there is now a LUA port for the DS. If it was possible with this LUA port and the DS port of FreePascal, and you had the hardware required, would you port DoomRL to the DS?
-
Main point here is "had the hardware required" :>
-
If you really want Kornel to do it, try this link (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php?action=treasury).

Nope, I think that there'd should be a dedicated donation campaign for buying a NDS. But first I'd need to see how viable doing a port is.
-
Meh, I could donate a used DS... but then I'd have to sell my GBA games (or get an SP)
-
I would happily donate an nds for a viable project. However, I realise that determining viability is itself a lot of work. There is a FreePascal compiler that is usable with the devArm toolchain, there is a Lua interpreter for the nds (Nano Lua), there is even a limited port of SDL for the nds. That is a lot of pieces for which there is no guarantee that working compatible libraries can be compiled.
There are several nds emulators which many people use for development. For developing on hardware a flash cart would also be required(~$25 US).
(I am selfish in bringing this up, I know. But I only play roguelikes on my DS, at "work", on the toilet... ;P )
edit: O. Didn't realise your PC was dying. $1500 is a lot to raise for a new PC.

Well I've managed half of it. The cost is high because I need it for StarDreamer and other high-end projects. As for NDS, I'm more and more thinking that this project is viable. Maybe post a bounty for a NDS port? If enough people increase the bounty this will become really a priority. You'll either need to donate to do that, or convince a supporter to post the revelant topic.
-
And a good deal of that $750+ is from Tavana :D
-
Just to note - I'd happily plough a little money into such a project - or even do it myself were sourcecode for doomrl available. DS roguelikes can be great (I play nethack a lot on my DS), but the biggest hurdle is all those command menus, which the simplicity of doomrl skips past. :)

I may launch a donation drive for a DS soon...

If you do I'll certainly donate. :)
