Title: Near-instant death on level start

I really dont care if anyone claims its a feature, because the situation is almost retarded. The player should NOT, EVER, spawn in a room with a dozen lost souls. Especially if its the second level.

Unless you're playing AoMr or AoB, you have a shotgun. Use it.

Died before the player could even move.

It seems 40 turns (4 in-game seconds) pass when you descend a floor.  Most monsters are frozen for perhaps 10 (?) in-game seconds, so the player has 6 seconds free to fire or run, but lost souls move right away (?) so get 4 seconds worth of time to move towards and attack the player right away.

If a large number of lost souls spawn close to you early in the game, there's not much you can do about it.  Kind of similar to a pain elemental cave later on if you are fortunate to be equipped to fight or escape it, if you aren't - game over, time to start over.

Yes, and I must say that it's extremely effective in close quarters like you've described.

Can we get a topic move/rename to "Bad Level Starting Area Complaints" in discussion?

I can't wait until we get a noob registering just to say that no matter what, whenever he starts the Spiders Lair, he's surrounded by Arachnatrons :D

When something like that happens, just laugh at how incredibly screwed you are. It happens that way sometimes. Just like Angel of Pacifism or Berserk games when narrow hallways are blocked  by barrels, you just have to deal with it =P
