For the "Using Knives and Fists" challenge, does Butcher's Cleaver count as a Knife?

Related question: If the medal requires that you win the game using knives and fists, does starting with a pistol equipped (on a non-challenge vanilla game) disqualify you? Or does an attack have to actually be made with the weapon for it to count against you?

For instance, I storm the Chained Court with my knife equipped and pick up the Chainsaw for the berserk. Have I now ruined my chance at that medal? Or am I okay so long as I don't attack with it?

Thanks for any answers you can give!

The requirements state that you only USE knives and fists. So if you carry a chainsaw but not use it, you're fine.

I was packing a nuke since I didn't expect to be able to take the Cybie, but I found a berserk pack and homing phase device on the level before the arena. He didn't stand a chance =) So yes, knives only for the badge.

Small update to this... combat translocator will not disqualify you from this badge.  Neat, huh?

All that matters is that you not kill monsters while wielding anything other than a knife or fists.  Butcher's Cleaver is not a knife; nuking a level is OK as long as you switch back to knife or fists before the nuke goes off (not sure if that's always possible).

That seems like a less than ideal way of tracking the challenge requirements.  At the very least, I guess you could pack a couple BFGs for cybs then run up and punch him.
