Title: Gawd I hope practice makes perfect...
Post by: Firebrand on November 13, 2009, 14:09
Heya folks. Yet another newbie here. XD So, a matter of curiosity struck me and I was wondering just how many tries it took folks to get through on TYTD. Took me nine tries, but being completely new to RogueLikes I think I did pretty well. Although, that may have been the Advanced Combat Shotgun on the 4th floor, Shottyman, Badass and Juggler (with a rocket launcher in the Prepared slot) that got me through it. >_>; So, anyhoo, how many tries did it take ye more seasoned players to get through on the easiest difficulty?

When I was new at this game I decided to start imidiatly at HNTR cause I'm that kind of a person who never touches the easy mode.

It took me like 300 tries to get my first win.
This was on 9.9.8 however.

never played on easy difficulty, but back on 0.9.8.10 i beat the game on my 26th try as angel of marksmanship. but that was easier to do than beating a normal game, adv.pistol with whizkid is just that powerful (i miss the AoMs adv.pistol very much)

I can't much remember my earlier runs... all I know is that it took a lot more than 9 tries, and on 0.9.8

The first time I played DoomRL was at version 0.9.8.5, which is I think one of the easiest versions I ever played, and the first times it took me over 20 times on ITYTD iirc... :P (now I win 90% of all "warming up" ITYTD games I play)

EDIT: Well, for the current version technically I won 100% of em, since I played only one to get a feel of the new features.

It didn't take me long to win ITYTD. I would say 7 tries. HNTR took a little longer.

I started on hey, not too rough. Took me about 15 tries, but then I went straight to ultra violence and got another win almost straight after.... So I guess once you do it on lower skills, you can rise up quickly.
