Title: Player data compatibility
Post by: Ruldra on December 07, 2009, 16:45
Will our current player data be compatible with future versions or are we going to lose all our progress again at some point?

Current data will be compatible forever. Although using it with future versions may produce some artifacts, but only "visual", like the number of uniques not adding up.

I know that I'm new to the process, and I'm sure there are others who will want to know as well, so I'll ask. What's the process for doing this?

Just copy the scores.wad and player.wad files over to the new version's folder, correct? Along with any mortem files you have saved. Is it necessary to bring the player and score backup files?

Thanks for any reply, and it sure doesn't have to be Kornel that answers this. I'm sure there are plenty of veterans who've been doing this for awhile now =P

player.wad and scores.wad are the only files you need to copy to retain your data (well you could copy mortems for sake of memories and copying backup files is a good idea, but neither is necessary)

Or do what I do and make a entire folder devoted to your DoomRL mortems if you want to keep them.
