As lead of the DoomRL Effort, Kornel has earned the right to be included in his own game as either a boss or NPC or easter egg. So, why is he not in it yet?
Discuss!

So, who do you think the RNG is? :))
-
Because authour inserts are universally a terrible idea in any conceivable medium.
-
Aha, I saw the "last post" and guessed Frankosity would've already shot this one down.
No, author inserts are usually not funny and certainly not "earned" or "necessary" by any stretch of the imagination.
-
Isn't his name on the front screen, with the big Doom logo? What more do you want? =P

Oh dear. Am I getting a reputation?

It would certainly seem that way.

Ah... I see what you folks are thinking. But all these are in the spirit of Doom -- wasn't the last boss a certain John Romero head-stump talking in reverse?
Actually, I was thinking about using Kornel as a final boss for Ao100, one that truly tests the mettle of a level 20 marine, as opposed to yet another vile-pack.
-
Kornel spawns Mancubi when hit, and spawns three Arch-Viles upon "death". You would be getting another pack of 'Viles.

I don't know whether to be flattered or... actually, I'm flattered whatever the reason. Har har.

That's certainly an idea. However, by the time the player gets to level 100 they're going to be so tricked out with traits and gear that it'd need to be insanely powerful to be a genuine threat. And if it's a genuine threat, that means your Ao100 run you've just burnt four hours on may go up in smoke at the very last hurdle...

It can be like Hell's Arena, where there are stairs that you can use to run away from -- that will give you a Partial Win instead of a Standard Win, which is the highest win one can get in an Ao100 run anyway.

And this is a bad thing how?

And this is a bad thing how?
I can't believe this...
You CAN'T SEE how losing 4 HOURS in one go would be a bad thing.
/me facepalms
This isn't ADOM...
Sigh...Well, if implemented, it would be tough to balance...

Good point. Perhaps we should made doomguy become invincible if the player has been playing for longer than an hour?
Or maybe make the last 40 levels of angel of 100 spawn only former humans, so that the chances of dying are less?
/me facepalms
ps. This isn\'t ADOM...
No, ADOM gets easier and easier the further into the game you get, until eventually you become essentially indestructable.

Sylph. Come on man. I didn't say we had to fucking baby the player. Ao100 is a bitch of a challenge all on it's own, there's barely any need to make it harder. and somepeople do spend a lot of time going through it, only to lose on dlevel 98 or whatever, basically making the last couple hours naught.
And the ADOM thing? Alright, I didn't know, it's not like I've gotten very far in it...How about Nethack? There's so much stupid things that can result in your death in NH, and I wouldn't know if it got easier in NH too, becuase once again, I've never gotten very far in it.
-
As I see it, for one, Kornel already knows he's awesome, and doesn't need to blow his own horn. He's got other people to do that for him, now. o.O
Also, the monster at the bottom of Ao100 idea, if you're going to suggest it, what's the reward? Why would a player do this? Currently a player faces Ao100 for the badges, perhaps to play Character Level 20 for a bit, for the challenge, and maybe even for the fun. If you put a big badass "I'm gonna kill you" thing at the bottom, that's cool. Just give them a REASON to kill it.
-
Sorry Madtrixr, I know you didn't say we didn't have to baby the player, I was just exaggerating. Point is, I like the idea of a 'final boss' to challenge the superhero marine at the end of an Ao100. Perhaps it could be UV only or something?

It's cool, but don't facepalm like i'm a dumbass. That might have been what set me off.
Facepalm only if I directly suggest something stupid.
-
What if you have Kornel as the "full-win" boss of Ao100? Like, if you nuke level 100 while invincible, you get a stairway to Kornel's coding room.
-
He would be all like, "LOLHAX! I KEEEL YOUUUUU." And he would shoot you with a bfg. On the first turn. Instant kill. Always."
-
Yes, because BFGs can pierce invulnerable.
If we do that, then he should be like that blue @ that I can't remember what he's called, where he shoots rocket shots, summons Arch-Viles on being hit, and occasionally summons three or four Mancubi instead of attacking.

He's invincible anyways, so he will just wait until your invincibility has worn off.
-
This is getting ridiculous. Having Kornel as a super-supercharged version of the Cyberdemon would be boring as hell, even if it summons five million mancubi a second and has TWO BFGs and hurf hurf hurf
Just jam his head on a stick and put him on level 100, with the ability to summon a handful of randomly-chosen enemies, with the RNG favouring high-tier foes.
-
Actually, yeah, Franko's right about this getting ridiculous. If Kornel's going to put himself in the game, he's going to put in a super-charged version of his favorite build. If that just happens to be the same as JC, then so be it.
-
Strange, but Kornel didn't appear in the topic somehow
I'd like the idea of his random appearence. If you're lvl 20, he can appear in the level with a special message.

"Here, have this."

I think it could be better like this:
"You fell like the god hand is here somehow"
-

But what if your rank is God Hand also? Wouldn't that sound... odd?
-
You misunderstand. You are a God Hand. Kornel is the God Hand.
-
Of course, this is assuming that anyone actually MAKES it to God Hand rank.

Even the mighty Dervis isn't there by the time.

You have four diamond badges. You are much much much closer to being a God Hand than me.
-
And the only other diamonds I think I can get are Veteran, Berserker, Arena, and with a bit of luck, Demonic. I very much doubt I'll ever get God Hand rank.
Oh, and maybe Longinus, should I manage to score DS prior to the UC on an AoMC N! run.

/me notes that AoMC is handy for some of the high-tier badges

Getting God Hand rank will take a while, but all and all you just need to cut out the Ohgodno and impossible ones though like Centurial and Quartermaster.
Demonic one is still very possible, I got to level 15 in one try and only died to lack of medpacks.
And Longigus one is very easy when you know... The Trick.

*hugs his 6 diamond badges*
