Title: Make Baron Armor more... Baron-y
Post by: leonresevil2 on February 21, 2010, 14:11
According to the DoomRL Wiki, Baron armor is the "Most mundane armor." It is arguably weaker than a red armor with a power mod. It gives off a build and vibe similar to the Gothic Armor, which is even more unique from its Set element. So I was thinking that the Baron Armor could be adjusted to make it more unique. I assume that the "Baron" namesake refers to the Barons of Hell. Barons are known to be immune to acid damage. Also, I believe they are not wearing boots. So, my idea was to give the Baron Armor unique the element of immunity to floor acid.
I know, Barons are hellspawn, and that's what likely gives them immunity. But this would make the armors more balanced and unique. And it would create a difference between Baron Armor and Gothic Armor.
Of course, Baron Armor may become an exotic, or other things may change. This is just a thought on enhancing the items of the game, not particularly a request.

I have another idea: Since we know that Knights and Barons have an acid ball attack, how about instead of making you immune to acid tiles, it just makes you immune to the Acid Ball attack? Like, neither you nor the armor take damage from it.

I thought about that, but the issue is, Hell Knights and Barons take damage from their own/each others' attacks. So, it didn't make as much sense, but I would like that option. Maybe make the acid damage /2.

I think it would be plenty powerful if the armor simply didn't lose durability to acid. You wouldn't be invulnerable when fighting barons, but you would effectively have a supercharged Onyx Armor. It would make acid barrels slightly less scary too, without replacing them with powder puff barrels.
