In 9.9.1 the sound of the demon when it attacks up close sound kinda like a cacoddemon.
-
Does anyone agree with me? Or am I imagining it? If so, how do I fix it? Not sure what sounds are for what so I can just switch it in the ini file.

I don't think their sound has changed at all. However, since they were buffed, they now have a chance of actually hitting you, so maybe this was just them hitting you for the first time and you noticed it?

No, they did always sound this way, but I think it sounds wrong. There was a thread before about sound effects being from the wrong monsters. It just doesn't sound like the demon at all in my opinion when they hit you.

If it bothers you that much, then download a soundpack with the proper sound, and re-bind it. :P

I double checked. It is definitely the wrong sound. In the original Doom, the demon sounds completely different when it attacks than in doomrl. Is this intentional?[

I would, but I'm not sure how to figure out which line it is in the sound file. Or where to find the sound effect files. I've been looking but no luck yet.

AFAIK all monsters in DoomRL base soundset use one and the same melee attack file. Binding a different sound to a creature isn't a problem, but first we'd need someone to check if demons really did use different soundfile for the attack and extract it. Anyone willing to do that?

Coincidentally, i just happened to have doom2.wad extracted on my hard drive. Finding the correct sound took very little time.

Don't ask me why they're named like this.
