Before him 525 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
459 of those were killed.
4 of those were killed by something unknown.
13 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 22 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.
Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 27 souls claim to have killed him...
5 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
22 killed the bastard and survived.

Best try yet. Got Cleaver just before CC, thought: "this time you have to win". First time I've seen it in 0991, seems to have been made a lot rarer? Definitely helped, play like a pacifist but kill anything that happens to be next to you of its own accord. At some point in the next few levels I used a knife to blow a barrel and forgot to switch back for quite a while oops.
All was going OK with constant berserking, but last few levels before Hell had something like 3 Arachno caves and 2 big rooms, used up all my packs and phases. Used my last phase on Hellgate and was dumb enough to try to kill the bruisers rather than just running and lost more HP and berserk. Had to skip UC cause of a huge pack of baddies on 16 and no resources. Got to level 17, no city of skulls, wide open space with 2 Vs and an R. Darn.
What do people think about getting Brute 3 first or going straight for MVa?
-
Yea, Gosh Darn indeed but nevertheless nice run. As for getting MVa, I would go for it, especially on higher difficulties.. I heard with good weapon you kill almost anything in 1 hit. Someone told for AoMr games getting SoG lvl 3 before DG is nice, but on higher difficulties it's much better to get DG first, because if pigs come you're screwed otherwise. I'm not experienced in AoB though, so this MVa first not necessarily has to be true. :) Good luck on future runs!

Bru 3 is not worth a level- the damage boost is not necessary, and acc boost is redundant at that point. You should definitely head straight for MVm
-
The real problem on N! is getting past those Arachno caves which are sure to take some medkits and phase kits to get out if you're lucky, and kill you if you're not. A bad arachno cave generation (surrounded by Arachnos with the stairs in some cave off-shoot that you have to wade through lava to get to) is pretty much an insta-death.
Ever since berserker became damage based, I've been trained to take my first four traits as Bru -> Bru-> Ber -> Bru. As for going for MVa first, I'm not sure, but I'll certainly vouch for that third level of Brute to be taken eventually.
Also of note, three levels of brute gives you enough to-hit to comfortably hit enemies while running.

Actually it is.
You're more likely to gib enemies with chainsaw and you have a higher chance to trigger berserk.
It can make the difference you know.
Your run was pretty awesome must say, butchers cleaver and everything! Shame you didn't get it all the way D:
Honestly for N! AoB I'd choose blademaster above vampire eitherway just for the rev/archvile packs, but butchers cleaver pretty much gives blademaster automaticly so..
-
I think that's one of the reasons people choose MVa, and one of the reasons I would go for it. If you find the cleaver, MBm is a wasted trait. I think a unique that has the effects of MVa should be introduced. Maybe Vampire Hunter D's sword, or Dracula's Fang?
-
I should start off admitting I've never actually taken blademaster, but I think rushing straight to vampyre is the best strategy.
The only thing either trait does is give you something for killing a mob, blademaster gives you an extra turn and vampyre gives you health. Unfortunately the extra turn is only situationally useful where as the health is always useful. Worst yet, if you encounter a lone mob then blademaster does effectively nothing.
In terms of resources, time is clearly more abundant then health. You can take a near infinite number of turns to win if you want, but there is only a finite amount of damage that the power-ups generated can heal. I suppose one can argue there is only a finite amount of battle-time and blademaster gives you more of that, but I still feel that overall vampyre will heal more health then blademaster will save. Vampyre also gives you a resource you can keep and "spend" later (by taking damage), where as blademaster forces you to "spend" the resource immediately.
As for taking the third level of brute, I always take it after vampyre, but as the very next trait. As it's been pointed out, the third level of brute helps trigger berserk more often, but the difference doesn't feel noticeable enough to delay getting vampyre.
