I know Kornel is hard at work on a bunch of projects, but I was just curious if there's been anything happening regarding DoomRL lately. There hasn't been a Phobos update in a few months now.

Or maybe someone can figure out how to make a RLDoom wad for doom? Bringing DoomRL rules and character advancement to Doom! Man that would be so cool, I love doom but its just so simple at times, I love the complexity of DoomRL and the character developement.

Doom 1 with a randomized level generator and weapon upgrades would probably be the best game ever made.

But yeah that would indeed be awesome, and I'm pretty sure with the possibilities of zdoom/skulltag these days, most DoomRL features (yes, I think even random levels) could be scripted into a wad.

Imo it just can't be done! Especially in Invasion skulltag or Zdeamon games you have like 30 cyberdemons and fun is about dodging rockets and pwning with plasma, or going with super shotgun into a bunch of demons then firing and running back (because our marine runs MUCH faster than monsters - and you can run for unlimited time). In roguelike you just die if you encounter bunch of nasty hellspawn or barely escape. So at least things involving chance to hit (in doom you always hit.. well almost, you sometimes miss with pistol/chaingun), dodges etc would be eliminated I presume (you hit if you aim a monster, you dodge when you move away from projectiles).
If so, idea is nice, there are even some mods which involves character leveling but I'm not so familiar with them. Maybe mentioned above issues could be fixed with mobs strength scaling? So if you always hit and you can dodge pretty much anything if you're skilled you would have to get some damage improving traits... but then - goodbye Hellrunner, Eagle Eye etc. So......
