Title: [M|AoHu|98%|0.9.9.3|Win] Scooping up some golds and medals
Post by: Thomas on April 28, 2011, 00:49
--------------------------------------------------------------
DoomRL (v.0.9.9.3 RC 1) roguelike post-mortem character dump
--------------------------------------------------------------

Thomas, level 10 Arch-Vile Lt. General, defeated the Cyberdemon
on level 25 of the Phobos base.
He survived 88682 turns and scored 95650 points.
He played for 1 hour, 6 minutes and 12 seconds.
He didn't like it too rough.

He killed 495 out of 502 hellspawn. (98%)

Do you know how many 95% AoHu runs there are on this site? Getting those last few revenants is HARD.

He held his right to remain violent.
He was an Angel of Humanity!

 He saved himself 2 times.

-- Special levels --------------------------------------------

  Levels generated : 9
  Levels visited   : 4
  Levels completed : 4

-- Awards ----------------------------------------------------

  UAC Star (bronze cluster)
  Untouchable Badge
  Every Soldier's Medal
  Hell Champion Medal
  Heroic Gold Badge
  Everyman Gold Badge

Heroic Gold is "Collect 24 of the 40 or so medals". A pretty hard gold, up there with N! AoLT.
Every Soldier's Medal is a brainchild of my own: clear the wall on AoHu. Disapointingly, I wasn't the first person to get it.
I'll try to be the first to get 'Medal of Honor', though. That'll be a doozy.
Hey, I also invented the untouchable badge! Man, I'm feeding my own addiction here.

-- Traits ----------------------------------------------------

    Ironman          (Level 3)
    Finesse          (Level 2)
    Tough as nails   (Level 3)
Son of a bitch   (Level 1)
    Badass           (Level 1)

  Fin->Fin->TaN->TaN->Bad->Iro->Iro->Iro->TaN->SoB->

Finesse two and a tactical shotgun is all you need, offense-wise.
Getting TaN later than my guide says to, but you don't really need more than 4 armour until hell knights start showing up.
It does mean you have to bulk mod your red armour earlier than you might like, though.

-- Equipment -------------------------------------------------

    [a] [ Armor      ]   modified red armor [6/6] (91%) (P)
    [b] [ Weapon     ]   modified missile launcher (6d7) [0/4] (P1)
    [c] [ Boots      ]   tactical boots [1/1] (100%)
    [d] [ Prepared   ]   modified BFG 9000 (10d8) [0/130] (B1)

I picked up a stack power cells in the arena and never dropped them or picked up more. I used them in the cyberdemon fight.
I'm pretty good at this whole planning ahead thing, I'd like to think.

-- Inventory -------------------------------------------------

    [a] tactical shotgun (8d3) [6/6]
    [b] modified red armor [4/4] (84%) (B)
    [c] modified red armor [4/4] (64%) (B)
    [d] shotgun shell (x32)
    [e] shotgun shell (x70)
    [f] shotgun shell (x70)
    [g] shotgun shell (x70)
    [h] rocket (x14)
    [i] rocket (x14)
    [j] rocket (x14)
    [k] rocket (x3)
    [l] power cell (x20)
    [m] small med-pack
    [n] large med-pack
    [o] large med-pack
    [p] large med-pack
    [q] large med-pack
    [r] phase device
    [s] thermonuclear bomb
    [t] power mod pack
    [u] bulk mod pack
    [v] Arena Master's Staff

If I tried, I probably could've done the vaults and the mort, or maybe even a full win.
Heck, I would've done the mort if I didn't have a big scare with a couple of revenants on levels 21-23.

-- Kills -----------------------------------------------------

    124 former humans
    65 former sergeants
    22 former captains
    110 imps
    42 demons
    16 lost souls
    38 cacodemons
    20 barons of hell
    1 Cyberdemon
    23 hell knights
    10 arachnotrons
    3 former commandos
    8 arch-viles
    10 revenants
    2 bruiser brothers
    1 Arena Master

He started his journey on the surface of Phobos.
On level 2 he assembled a tactical shotgun!
On level 2 he entered Hell's Arena.
He left the Arena as a champion!
On level 5 he stormed the Chained Court.
He defeated the Hell Arena Master!
On level 5 he found the Arena Master's Staff!
On level 5 he assembled a tactical boots!
On level 8 he witnessed the Wall.
He massacred the evil behind the Wall!
On level 11 he found the Necroarmor!
On level 12 he ventured into the Halls of Carnage.
On level 15 he encountered the Phobos Hellgate.
Then at last he found Phobos Arena!

-- General ---------------------------------------------------

Before him 539 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 447 of those were killed.
5 of those were killed by something unknown.
40 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 18 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

EDIT: Man, I was reading over this and thought I should explain my 40 nuke deaths.
Every failure on AoRA, regardless of how you died, counts as a nuke death.
I've tried UV/AoRA/100% about 35 times now, I suppose.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 29 souls claim to have killed him...
4 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
25 killed the bastard and survived.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Two more points that I didn't sneak in to the mortem:

The tactical shotgun is a new assembly in 0.9.9.3. It's overpowered. The mods you start with on AoHu mean you can assemble it on level 2 (as I did) and become a force of nature.

The Wall was easier than expected. By making a hole in the bottom of the wall, I could just stand in it and shoot my tactical shotgun upwards around the wall. I got hit once or twice, but I think I already had my [6/6] armour by then, or at least a regular red.

I applaud you, but someone should really fix that "On level 5 he assembled a tactical boots!" typo. A pair of tactical boots.

Naw, there's nothing new in here. Like I said in the mortem, I'm not even the first to get the Every Soldier's Medal.

But yet another guide writer has done the Angel of Supreme Inner Discipline.

I'm not even sure I have unlocked that yet.  O.O

Oh just you wait. There's still more undiscovered badges. :)

I'm pretty sure most people, or at least non-beta testers, haven't seen the tactical shotgun. It's a rather important ingredient toward early AoHu dominance, if I do say so myself (and a pretty great assembly in general).

Working on Quartermaster Diamond, are you? I've been at that one for a while m'self, farthest I got was an unfortunate near-stairs in City of Skulls (which I was forced into by time restraints). Fireangel helped a LOT, lemme tell you.

In the 1.6 version of my guide, there's a lot of talk about tactical shotguns, let me tell you. It's easily the most powerful assembly weapon in the game.

As for my quartermaster diamond runs, if they don't end before level 4, I can usually get them to about 10-13 before messing something up. I normally don't make master traits any more, HR->HR->Fin->Fin->Iro-Iro is my go-to quartermaster diamond build, although I'm beginning to see the benefits of a double shotgun (if you can find one) and shottyman.
