Title: Request for Help : Competition ideas!
Post by: Kornel Kisielewicz on May 29, 2011, 19:51
While there was already a DoomRL competition, it got quickly pwned by Game Hunter. True, I made a few mistakes, like making the announcement and start of the competition to close to each other, but frankly I do not have much ideas for the next compo -- suggestions please? :)

How about "Most Ingenious Use Of An Exotic/Unique In A Situation That Most Likely Did Not Warrant It And Could Have Been Resolved In A Much More Boring Manner"?

The name needs work, though.

How about 'Most Entertaining Misuse of Resources'? Assuming by 'boring' you mean 'efficient' and/or 'sensible'.

Or avoiding the issue entirely. So, this name is very good.

I propose the competition goal to consist of two parts - one which is easier to achieve on UV/N, second - easier on ITYTD/HNTR. The example might be Win with 1000+ dodges, or reach level 16 without melee kills and with 10000 bullets fired (numbers are mostly random). So the goal can be achieved both by good players and by not so good player and for both it should be challenging.

Have anyone completed the Ao100 on N! before? If not, than we can have a "who can climb deeper" competition. Possibly with an added restriction of no Ammochain.

Not in this version, no. We've had a few (including myself) do it when N! A100 was a little easier, but now it seems like a very daunting task. I imagine if we had a competition for it, someone would actually complete it with the help of a lucky drop or two.

Awww... keep Ammochain in the mix, but suggest a better prize if Ammochain weren't used.

Since it hasn't been played in a while, we don't know if A100 N! is even doable at this point.

sounds like a perfect idea for a challenge then.

Another possibility for a competition could be one or more sandbox mods created as challenges for the tournament. Kind of like sprint mode in crawl. The levels would be new to everyone and there would be no chance of savescumming (although people could modify the level file >.> )

How about a competition for creating the best sandbox mod in a give amount of time?

Ooooo...

This actually sounds good!  Now we will have more reason to convince Kornel to make it more mod friendly.
