Title: [M|AoMr|YAAM] The story of the last bullet missing

Watching the corpse of a hell baron being incinerated in lava, Adrian Carmack took a deep breath of rest, and thought about the last two hours ...

He always liked pistols, and despised other weapons. Thus, he didn't care for advice of other marines to grab some more powerful weaponry for his mission to Phobos. He knew that he can trust his eyes and triggerhappy fingers. Maybe he should have listened ...

Standing near the stairs, recent memories flashed before his eyes ...
... the voice of the Arena Master ...
... the sigh of relief that, back at the academy, he didn't sleep during the basic assembly course ...
... those rockets he dodged ...
... the enormous heat of lava ...
... and most recently, the grin on his face, when be blasted a lava barrel and killed all six arachs surrounding it.

Adrian knew that he was in no hurry now. Calm at first, he searches his pockets and the ammo belt - and calmness made way for despair.

He heard the rumors. Rumors telling of a new evil, even more terrifying that the rocket-spewing Cyberdemon was. Rumors, which made his heart beat like drum - and which should now become real.

He unloaded one of his high power pistols and holstered it, knowing that one must be enough now. Counting the bullets again, he realised he was right:
Before him lied 27 bullets and a loaded high power pistol.

"This ain't lookin' good", Adrian muttered again. Yet he knew - there's no way back now ...

He heard the mechanical steps even before descending the staircase. Whatever was pounding the ground so hard, must have noted Adrian's presence - the pounding sounded closer and closer. Adrian peeked around the corner and saw ...

"Oh shit. Holy shit!"

Adrian knew from the rumors what he should be prepared for - but it still took him a moment to regain his composure from the monstrosity that just met his gaze. Just in time to hide behind the corner, before the first volley of the Mastermind's projectiles would tear him to pieces.

The steps were clanking closer and closer. Adrian knew he has to the quicker one to kill. With a deep breath and a gun in his hand he stepped forth ...

"CLICK!"

Adrian could barely remember the last few seconds. Aim, dodge, fire, reload, aim, dodge, fire, reload, all of it was a blur - until that "CLICK!" sound.

Before rolling behind the corner again, he took a look at the Mastermind. It was looking really bad - limping, covered in its own blood, electricity sprakling all over its beaten, yet still monstrous body. And something uncovered in the center of the body, something pounding ... Perhaps the heart of the enormous brain?

Adrian somehow felt that one bullet from his high power pistol, if aimed well, would end it all. He quickly searched his pockets again ...
... no last bullet there. And the steps were pounding just around the corner ...

He knew he only had a single chance. When he saw one of those giant legs around the corner, he jumped forward, grabbed the Mastemind gun with one arm and pushed it aside, and before it could react, started punching it, aiming for the "heart". The Mastermind was shaking violently, trying to release its gun from Adrian's grasp and tear him to pieces.

Then, finally, one punch went through.

A gut-wrenching and nerve-wrecking scream filled the air. Adrian was thrown away and landed on a wall. He prepared for the final hit, but when he opened his eyes, he saw the Mastermind shaking in agony. Then, a huge explosion deafened him and everything went dark ...

The first thing Adrian noted, was the smell of grass, and the chittering of birds. He opened his eyes, and closed them again, dazzled by sunlight.
He realized what he has done.
He proved too tough for Hell itself, and was spit out of there.

He felt relatively safe ... now.

In fact, I didn"t forget about the lava element, but I thought, hey, I can stand a few spiderleg kicks, can't I? But when I found

... that Mastermind is as lousy in melee as arachs,
I knew that I won't need it.
I did forget about the Cybernetic Armor, though. But these things happen when you play at 1AM :).

BTW: CZ? Ano, presne tak - zdravim z Ostravy :). Dalsi cestinu v PM - nebudeme rusit tema ;).
