Title: Stairs = elevator?

I just realized that it's weird that there are stairs between levels, since Doom had either elevators or teleporters. How about calling the stairs elevator for flavour reasons?

to be fair, it also had stairs, lots of them e1m1 had them right to the left of the starting area.  but i think elevator is more flavorful, yes.  However, if we wanted to be most accurate, it would change from location to location, starting off as a caspile to bring you from one base to another (or that's what i assume the end of level lever does since you move from one base to another every time you pull it)

Yeah, right. I guess I was a little confused by Wolfenstein 3d, in Doom it was more like some horizontal transport, not vertical.

In any case, I don't remember stairs ever connecting levels in Doom, that's why I'd prefer to call it elevator.

Hmmm... it would look kinda weird to have monorail station in the middle of the room. And only one tile small.
I think I still prefer elevator, though the flavour argument is getting a tiny bit shaky.

I don't think it would make the game much less roguelike, though.

the game itself is roguelike in genre, you don't have to worry that removing references to rogue would dilute what the game fundimentally is.  So since the setting is doom, I think they have priority in any flavor dispute

Also useful if you are zerked and want to avoid a special level.

Ironically, last two or three times I played AoPc, I entered the mortuary by accident, but had a homing phase device in each case, so at least I got a supercharge out of it.
