Ave! I just downloaded the newest version of DoomRL (0.9.9.5) and for my surprise, I cannot even start the game. Running either doomrl.bat or doomrl.exe leads to an error which only flashes on screen. For our luck this generates error log which tells us this:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am running 32-bit Windows XP SP3. What gives?

Are you running the game with a clean slate? Sometimes adding in old files (particularly config.lua) will cause problems because it tries to look for something that didn't exist in a previous version.
Other than that I can't think of a reason off-hand: if the problem still persists then I'll see if I can figure out the problem.

I had unzipped the game files in new directory, so there were no files from older installations. I re-downloaded the game and unzipped it in new empty directory and now it works. I had probably written something wrong in the config.lua.

This problem will be much better reported in 0.9.9.6... oh, and it will have an installer too ;)

Oh, an installer... *disappointed guy meme here*

Its optional. There'll be the usual zip archive download too.
(well at least the latest unreleased version has)
