Title: [0.9.9.6G Windows] Client Glitches
Post by: Numbernaut on March 22, 2012, 07:34
I have had some cases when I was playing DoomRL when the client does not recognize the key binds for the roguelike, and I have to do alt-enter for it to respond, or at least left click to help rectify it.

For the sake of clarity, I'm just going to throw a few things out there:

I know this sounds silly, but is the window selected?

Is it only some commands that don't work (and you need to fix) or the whole keyboard which stops responding?

If you click with the mouse and then try use the keyboard again, what happens?

Is there any scenario in which this specifically occurs, or is it just random?

The window is selected.

Some commands, not all of them. Those commands either don't respond, or they just invert the letter that I wanted to use.

Most of these instances are random, but I always have to either use the mouse or use the keyboard (varies), or alt-enter to do fullscreen and go back out.

Sometimes I am multitasking while playing DoomRL, such as reading articles or etc., sometimes it happens.

Sounds like its possibly an issue with swapping in and out of the game using control escape or alt tab. Even in windowed mode, most games will have problems with the alt, control, or shift keys being stuck on when re-entering the game. Thus shifting/altering the inputs and in some cases simply making them not work at all.

Easy way to make sure thats not the case, and something ive trained myself to do, is to quickly hit shift, control, and alt once or twice every time ya swap back into a game.
