Title: [E] My first atempt with the new version

 DoomRL (v.0.9.8.5) roguelike post-mortem character dump
--------------------------------------------------------------

 Darkshadow, level 9 Human Soldier, defeated the Cyberdemon
 on level 25 of the Phobos base.
 He survived 151309 turns and scored 30235 points.
 He was too young to die!

 He killed 463 out of 477 hellspawn. (97%)
 He held his right to remain violent.

 He found the Phobos Arena.
 He stormed the Chained Court.
 He ventured into the Halls of Carnage.
 He fought on Hell's Arena.
 He became a champion of Hell's Arena!
 He witnessed the City of Skulls.
 He faced The Wall.
 He wandered into the Unholy Cathedral.
 He was caught in the Mortuary!
 And he managed to clear it!

Cybie is (almost /AoM/) always easy. But getting to him could cause more problems on higher difficulty levels. Give them a try!

Rapid = fast shooting
Fastload = fast reloading

My biggest problem was that I didn't have an internet connection so a buddy downloaded the game for me, so I had absolutely no clue what was in waiting for me. Oddly enough I kept falling back to ADOM tactics, things running in diagonals to help dodge shots and never stand directly in front of a door you are opening, and they seems like they work

The change to the arena was both welcomed and annoying, cacodemon spawned next to me on stage 3 but I got it with my combat shotgun (thank you shottyman), the blue armor and the rocket launcher at the end are definitly worth the extra trouble.

The BFG in the city of skulls didn't burn that much ammo, 2 shots while the walls were still up and swaped to my advanced double shotgun (BTW shottyman still kicks ass) to clean up, got 2 fully loaded BFGs, 80 power cells, some shotgun shells and lvl 7 (tough as nails).

Is the Unholy Cathedral even possable for anything but a strict melee character? I almost killed by just the lost souls nevermind the AoD.

I only swaped to the advanced plasma rifle on lvl 19 because carring all that 10mm to keep feeding my extended chaingun was getting to be a pain and I ran short on shotgun shells.

I know I got very lucky with the Mortuary, it looks like it could get ugly very quick but the rewards are some of the nicest in the game.

Found a nuke on 23 but a baron destroyed it before I got it.

It might just be me but I like the pain elementals and the arch-viles, fighting them adds a major exp gain for a shotgun player but I need more practice to scum them (btw no decriptions or pictures?).

But that was not your first version of DoomRL played?

It definietely is. Souls are chainsawed easily. Demons may require some berserk mode and AoD... he's hard for unprepared character. All you need is Berserk ;)

Heh, I liked them on level Easy too. I wanted more Arch-viles. Yees... Now only Pain Elementals are so welcome... :P

Pain elementals can't be scummed, because the Souls produced by them have no Exp value :). Ressurected monsters by Arch-Viles OTOH *DO* have an exp value... but I still may change that in the future if Vile scumming gets to popular.
