So yeah, my progress with AoSh is not going well, mainly that I can't seem to kill the Mastermind before she kills me. Yes, I had all of those health packs, but they would not have helped me in the end if she kept blasting me with her chaingun.
If you look carefully, you'll see two thermonuclear bombs. I was hoping to get an invulnerability sphere on the level before, use the bomb to take out the mastermind, then use the lava element/Thermonuclear to take out JC. Sadly, because of no invulnerability sphere, I was forced to use the element for the mastermind. As you can tell, it didn't go well.
I honestly think my best stategy will be to just use the double shotgun the whole run, and hanging onto a shell box for the final battle to counter the reload problem.
(Oh, and I actually have a 100% kill win with AoMr, which shows that I'm quite proficient with a bullet dance build.)

It took me about 5 tries to get AoSh to work, but I went for MSh instead of MAD, since as far as I've seen, speed is key in defeating the Mastermind.

With MSh, an extra helping of HR and a combat shotgun with some medpacks on the side, you can simply keep running mode on, drawing circles around a pillar (meaning auto-reload due to SM). You stay ahead of Spidey, put yourself in a cornershoot position, fire until it's closing in or you're out of ammo and run around the next corner. Could be I did this with plasmatic shrapnel, come to think of, but the tactics stay the same; you just replace a shot or two by a reload.

Why not just use the bomb?Partial victory is a victory too, there's nothing bad or shameful about it.

Hm.  Two things:  1. Did you turn on running mode?  Shotguns take no toHit penalty from running.  2. Were you just standing there and reloading or were you doing move-reloads via SM?  If you were just standing there, yeah, you would take damage all the time, but if you were relying on move-reloads, it would be a little less annoying.

I would stock up on a couple of phase devices of some sort just to give me a chance to run away to heal when I'm in a tight spot.

You really do want to save all ammo boxes you can, especially on weapon challenges. One or two of those and a tech on a double shotgun are an incredible force against bosses.

1) I completely forgot about the running mode because I don't use it normally. So no, I did not use it because I forgot.
2) I was doing both.

It's easier to armour yourself against melee damage than the mastermind's plasma damage range attack. Try to find/make good melee armor during the run and then just fight the mastermind from melee range.
