I've left the flash where I kept DoomRL somewhere - either my friends have it or it's lost forever. Unfortunately, that means I can't play DoomRL. I could obviously make a new installation, but I'm sure if I did, I'd get all the specials I need for Armorer diamond in three runs, probably pull off Gatekeeper diamond and maybe some other badges I'm trying to get right now...
I haven't smoked a single cigarette since the party where I left the flash and I don't care, but the DoomRL withdrawal is killing me...

I can imagine what I feels like, especially when you have a lot of time on your hands... maybe I should finish my Heresies character so we can get started, that oughta take your mind off of things. I have no experience with Silhar as gamesmaster of course, but I have a feeling we're in for a very engrossing story...

backups rule, 1st. Go play Diablo II or other achievement heavy game that's not that long, or probably live through it. But you can also try contacting the party host in case there was someone who found that flash.
(I'd quit if I'd see me harmed like this by a game withdrawal. I am pretty much of a gaming maniac, as I apparently have a hardly controllable desire to play games, so I know what I'm talking about.)

I keep my doomrl folder on my dropbox account.Saves me from constantly copying player.wad and score.wad from one pc to another.

That sounds like a clever thing to have done a couple of days ago =)

That's one of the reasons why I like the "LQ" version of DoomRL -- it doesn't take up that much space no matter where I stuff it. I've also put together a script that automatically makes an archive of my mortem files (renamed of course), my configuration files and statistics files. Then I send it to myself via email or something.
Yes, I take the stats of this game pretty seriously. =P

High time to allow cloud saves it seems :>
-
Kornel, is it cheaper to run the cloud save as an appliance on AWS as opposed to running it in-house?
-
Not exactly - we need it locally because it will be authenticated against your forum account. Also, the same cloud-save feature will power the custom forum signatures with play info, and the global leaderboard, right?
-
I'm just uncomfortable with the word "cloud" when we only have one running server.
>.<
-
anyway, a centralized backup is better than a person failing to do a local backup ;) And, who said a cloud could NOT consist of one server? (I understand about redundancy reasons etc)
