59 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
42 of those were killed.
1 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
16 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
3 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
13 killed the bitch and survived.

I almost got killed in an Arachnotron Cave somewhere around dlev21 and hesitated - if not for that level, Compet-n Platinum would have been mine ;(
[EDIT] How the hell do you do this in under 3 minutes?!
[EDIT2] My girlfriend called, said she'd be late for dinner:

In the words of AStranger - "if you are thinking, you are losing". Granted, that was a sub-15 minute Nightmare run, but the same applies. Use the binds for medkits, make some for phases and homing phases, the only thing that exists is DoomRL, stop thinking, stop losing.
Years of Doom speedrunning have taught me many things - the most important of which also applies here: Speedrunning is ironically, a matter of endurance. No matter how close you are to your target, keep at it and there's no way you won't eventually smash it.
-
Yep yep about no thinking and endurance.
When you're running in berserk/invul and see powerup/armor/consumable that is on your way to stairs you take it without watching, you equip whatever armor you have(or even don't equip it at all).
Admittely speedrunning(and in particular old UAC Diamond which was 15 min) was way harder when there was no Scout. Now it's quite easier.

Grab a copy of DOS Recorder and see my recorded 2m52s speedrun here:

Most of all let me note, that speedrunning on the G-version is generally a lot harder than on ASCII :).
I might add a switch removing the movement animation for this purpose.

While you are at it, add a switch that automatically rescales everything so that the whole graphics area fits into a single screen, visual quality be damned.
/me grins impishly

Seconded.

Hey, get this heretic talk off my thread ;)

Man, I should hope you do. I've already promised it to like, ten different people.
Aiming for Compet-n Platinum is a lot easier, as a matter of principle, when done on Angel of Pacifism. This is simply because any thought of killing enemies is gone and your ONLY mode of thought is toward finding the stairs. Even without stair sense (indeed, before it even existed), I can't say I ever had that much trouble getting sub-10 times in a AoPc HNTR run. 'Course I'm sure the AI changes since then have made a big difference.
Given the current balance in a standard game, I'd probably do Scout with a Shottyhead build, starting toward Shottyman first. Melee (especially Berserker) is pretty golden but shotguns are almost as thoughtless AND work at a range. The only trouble might come from Mastermind, I'd wager.

Sounds too much like thinking though. I kept a vanilla shotgun prepared on these runs, but invested in BRU/BER instead, with HR for backup so as to make it easier to reach enemies (and not get blasted away from the stairs after every step because it's under fire by a Revenant).
Shottyhead works excellent versus the Mastermind, but you might lose time trying to get enough xp (since without it, you'll be toast)....
