65 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
46 of those were killed.
1 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
18 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
3 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
15 killed the bitch and survived.

Now that I'm getting the hang of dying, I might as well sink my teeth in. Another challenge that has thusfar gone uncompleted, but at least this time I was smart enough not to ragequit and watch my bronze go up in smoke.
Thought I'd give Sharpshooter another try, since it's still by far the most impressive build I've seen yet. After fullfilling the SOG requirement, I thought I'd take a detour past WK, since I'd have to assemble a storm bolter on the fly. It was actually a pretty good run; I was too chicken to do the wall, but the Anomaly went well enough without the missile launcher. Deimos got off to a promising start with a demon cave, and on the second level running into a knight I'd previously missed with no cover whatsoever, I simply took a gamble and he fell at my feet after I'd emptied a clip on him.
Then came the pain elemental. Even with a 0.4s fire time it managed to spawn 6 souls in 3 shots (seriously, what the hell?), 2 of which thus hit souls instead - I had no choice but to leg it. Since I obviously had no medpacks and was never going to make it to the door, or at least thought so, I decided to take the honourable way out instead and put a bullet through a barrel of lava I was standing next to.
In light of my previous demise (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,5772.msg48323.html#msg48323), I might even try and see how many consecutive times I can't suffer death by lava barrel. So far, I'm starting to like it...

Pain Elementals are a big pain on the ass for pistols only runs. When you see a Pain Elemental you must kill it as fast as possible. But in your place, since the challenge was AoI, I would chose to keep the shotgun and some shells.
-
As for AoI, go for the most versatile build possible. Keep RL, chainfire weapons, shotguns, etc.
And Lost Souls are incredibly strong against pistol builds atm. I bet most of us had problems with them.
-
Best pistol against PainEl and LostSouls - is shotgun
-
I was feeling lucky, and decided to just dump the shotgun altogether. Another lesson learned, I guess.
I'm still completely baffled as to the absurdly high spawn rate; 2 times in 0.8 seconds (it spawned after two consecutive shots) means it can actually spawn twice while I take a step. Should this be possible?
-
Pain elementals have a chance to spawn lost souls whenever damaged.

Do not underestimate the classic shotgun =) . I cleared the whole City of Skulls with it (and a little help of 2*Reloader and ShellBox) on AoCn runs.
Your inventory on AoI should allow you to keep almost every type of weapon, with a decent collection of ammo stacks for each.

Single shotgun brofist!
But yeah - whenever you aren't on a weapon restricted challenge, ALWAYS keep a shotgun with you. If I was doing a pistols AoI run, I'd probably have my pistol on primary slot, ammobox or combat shotgun (which should later be assembled into its tactical variant) in secondary then a rocket/missile launcher in reserve. If you're on a run of bad luck, the basic shotgun is more than enough of a substitute for a combat shotgun.
And remember - you don't need all that space for medpacks (who carries medpacks anyway?) so make sure you have ammo stacks equal to what you're probably gonna use (for example, i'd keep two ammo chains, three stacks of 10mm, three stacks of shells, one shell box, one rocket box, two stacks of rockets then cells and batteries for the rest.)
-
Your inventory on AoI etc.
I usually carry no more than 3 medpacks, so there's not much difference there. Lesson learned for the next run, I just got cocky on this one.
