Redundand overcomplication - not needed.

thanks for the friendly reply - it might be redundant for those of us who played the original game, but i was thinking for new players, there's no visual feedback/stats that show that which armor is better than the other (or by how much). i thought this would be a (not to complicated?) way of showing this..
altenetively maybe use the original names, security and combat armor and color the text respectively?

Errr?
First of all the armor system in DoomRL is completely different from Doom. And secondly it's perfectly fine as it is now. Armor shows up as
Armor : red armor [4/4] (XX%)
Armor : blue armor [2/2] (XX%)
Armor : green armor [1/1] (XX%)

Higher armor value = better and XX% = durability. Same system hundrets of games use and people who are new to games in general should just read the manual for 5 minutes...

Hey, you think you're cool because you found some armor? Think again. Look,
there are three numbers by the armor. The first two in square brackets are
[current damage resistance/maximum damage resistance]. The second one is
your armor's health. 100% means it's undamaged, 1% is almost destroyed. The
more damaged an armor is the lower its actual resistance is. Throw away
armors that have a damage resistance equal zero -- they won't help you
anyway. Keep an eye on those numbers!

oops i forgot about the DR numbers, my head hasnt quite recovered from yesterday yet :P, so i guess that my original would be screwing up the system a bit..
still think the armors could have some cooler names :), even tho green/blue it whats used when 'talking doom'

While I basically agree (the meaning of green/blue/red is Doom specific and cryptic to people who are new to Doom) I still think it's better to stick to the Doom way for obvious reason :)
I also think most people got the three armor types memorized after 3 or 4 games and the game also always shows the resistance value when you 'l'ook at an armor or step on it.

Since there are no "magic" or special armors, I think we're better off with these names to keep the spirit. Another thing would be if there were millions of possible combinations of armors, because having a "dark brown armor with red stripes and silver dots of demon protection" would make our eyes bleed. Also, as DaEezt said, after a few games you've pretty much gotten the hang on armor values. Your proposed numbers would just not be so meaningful at a simple glance.

I didnt Even play the original DOom

well, since Kornel just hinted there might be :D, and the red armor (& other items) is made up anyway i dont see how its that much big of a deal. using security and combat armor would be keeping the spirit just the same imo..
and that brown armor you're describing sure would make our eyes bleed, i dont see how it relates to my post tho.

and if you had read the whole thread, you'd seen that i already had come to the same conclusion

Yes, Kornel, I already know there's a secret armor:P
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Still not enough variety to justify the name change, in my opinion.

I was just trying to make some fun on the extreme case that we had lots of randomly generated armours we wouldn't have enough "basic" colour names to name them all. Just a joke, then, and does not relate to your post at all.

Easy, man. I just was stating my opinion on the thread, as does everybody else. The fact that I agree with DaEezT on the subject does not mean I don't read every post. I was just seconding what he said, you know. No need to be so blunt, because I was not attacking you personally in any sense, as you seem to think.
