Deimos Lab appears to have a drive-thru window. Screenshot was taken afterward, but setting is the same. I'm standing on top of a combat pistol, full inventory. I drop a RL to be able to pick up the pistol for Armorer purposes. The dropped item melts, which means I shoved it through a wall... yeah I kick ass.
Might not be a bug per se, but it should either have landed just west of either chaingun, or John Romero [nice one :)] should have been unable to drop.

if kill a lot of formers on Phobos Entry inside base some of dropped items appears outside. IMO standard feature from previous releases

Yeah, I seem to recall Kornel posting about it a while back. Basically, he said that he didn't want any problems involving dropping an item and not having it land anywhere, and since there can only be one item per square, this means that sometimes, if the floor is already crowded with items, that item is going to land a long ways away, sometimes even on the other side of a wall! It would certainly be unfortunate to lose an item in acid/lava that way, so I'm wondering if it should be changed to favour dropping the item on dry land if possible.

Makes sense, kind of, from a game mechanic point of view. Logically speaking however, being unable to drop something in your current position sounds better to me. I don't see this making a life-or-death difference in play.

Was already like this.
I also discovered recently (on 0.9.9.6) that items can't drop more than 5 tiles away : farming a sergeant in the N! entryway, I never found all the shells I was expecting... just because a stupid former already filled the space with 10mm ^^
I wonder if you can lose an unique items that way.

This happened to me too in Deimos lab today! I dropped an A mod on top of a plasma shotgun (so I could pick it up) but it just melted! I think it was in that area with the four weapons in that little cubby hole. Seems like only 4 items on the ground shouldn't cause it to happen, but it did.
At the time, I had chalked it up to a special 'feature' of the plasma shotgun. :P

The reason why the game doesn't simply tell you that there is no room is because dying enemies also drop items. And they kinda don't have the luxury of droping them later.

Sounds legit, but for Doomguy, the nett difference between an item not being dropped by a dead baddy or a dead baddy dropping an item into acid/lava is zero, of course.
I don't know how the mechanisms work, but if you could make an exception for only the player concerning wether or not items can be dropped, the problem's solved.
