well, untouchable series not for me... for now. I try another challenge - take A LOT of damage. well, past Chained Court only 890 taken :( I walk in lava and acid, I shot any barrels in close range, until I have a free medpacks or globes on level. well, need a lot of patience - die on lava :) But 10000 damage = approximately 300+ taken on every level, this seems near impossible. Does anyone got that medal?
-
Yep.
Vampire build + pain elemental(s). Take your time.
Also iirc 2dev got it through some bug on AoHu, you can try asking him.
-
And at least now you can keep track, with the new player info screen.

ooouh, about 1 hour of dancing around agony elemental.
phase-shifting boots is only way to survive. Accidentally kill AE, and things become too boring... kill all. Only 1/2 of needed value :)

That's uber-boring. Any other decent way of getting it? What about an Ao100 run? Isn't it easy to get it at least there??
The bad thing about this medal is that the more you play DoomRL, the more chance you have to never be able to actually get it. Since becoming better at this game is actually all about dodging and avoiding hits in the first place, how the hell should we get this medal if we play carefully and avoid hits all the time? ... It kinda contradicts any decent run which feels stupid...
PS : Untouchable medals/badges are actually easier than this one...

You can't get Iron Skull on Ao100. It's specifically excluded.
And it's impossible to get it by simply playing. There's not enough healing sources to get hit that much and still don't die.
MVm is super-boring, but it's the only way. It's the only trait that heals you.

Damn I forgot that detail.
That's sick man.. I can't begin to describe my loathsomeness for such a medal's existence...

10000 damage, that's enough to kill a marine 166 times over, 200 times for lesser men (i.e. scouts, technicians).
-
A relevant question:
Is the 10.000dmg calculated based on the initial dmg the creatures deal on each hit, or does the damage reduction and resistances first apply, so that only the final actual dmg counts?
If the latter is true then a zerked character will have an even harder time to get the skull since his resistances are so high, he practically absorbs most of the dmg... Not to mention TAN levels and armor that add up on that too.
-
I'm 97% sure that matters hp that you actually lost and not initial damage.
-
I was wondering - how much damage do you take from nuking yourself, and would it count? If this is a four-figure number, it's actually worth considering adding this to the MVm/CoS strategy.

Sorry to eliminate your hopes but I'm pretty sure that on nuking it's either one of the two:
1. You nuke yourself and die, which means you get no badges since you died. No badges mean no iron skull no matter the damage.
2. You nuke and live to see another day with means of invulnerability which means 0 dmg was dealt to you.
Either way, doesn't help with the iron skull...
PS: It's obviously a sick reward for people who lose a day killing lost skulls endlessly with Mvm...
-

That's not by default true. Some badges/medals don't require you to complete the game (UAC stars, for example, or Gatekeeper Bronze. Lots more.) Iron Skull doesn't state that you actually have to complete the game, just that you have to suffer a lot.
Option 2 is indeed no-go, of course.
-
You are right ofc, no idea what I was thinking. For some reason I have linked death in my mind with no real rewards, since I usually hunt for the completeness badges...
-
So the question remains: how much damage does a nuke do? I'm starting to see more and more sense in Deathwind's request to have damage taken added to the mortem as well...

All of it. I'm just guessing, but you probably can't have negative HP, so you'll only ever take as much damage as you have HP.
-
Depends how it's calculated then, I guess. Any takers?

IIRC, a nuke deals 6000 (fire, most likely) damage to everything on the level. Dunno if the overkill damage counts, though.
-
I don't know either, but we're all looking forward to the results of your research :)

Cool. If it does count, it certainly gives us hope of at least making the award somewhat feasible after all.
Otherwise it's just plain ridiculous.
