Title: Name.ini or something similiar
Post by: GenTechJ on January 10, 2007, 14:08
An odd request I know, but is it possible to add an extra file with the names used in the autogenerator that we can edit? I'm too lazy to come up with a name every time I start a new game, but there are names I'd like to see/add to the autogen list.

Does the name really matter?
If you REALLY want, you can always edit the mortem name when you post it.

Surprisingly enough, alot of people do not like the routine of typing in the same old name (or set of names) every time they create a new DoomRL game. Marketing was puzzled.

I actually like this idea. It can't be too hard to get the RNG to source from an external file as opposed to an internal list.

I don't know... I think that calls for a data file, and I've heard those are hell to manage.
But I'm really no expert... :)

But it does sound like a good idea.
I could get Bob, Skippy and Lucifer to alternate shifts on their own!

I guess that is simple to implement for Kornel... also, is the mortem still being output to mortem.txt? would be nice if it changed to reflect the name of the character!

This should be easy to do (seeing as how there's a bank of names anyway for when you don't pick any/select the random name option in the .cfg), although I suppose it may not be coded with ease of alteration in mind (which would be a shame).  If it works the way I'd hope it works, all that needs to be done is make the bank of names being referenced editable and visible in some fashion.
