Any good tips on a class / build / approach for HNTR Angel of Marksmanship on 0.9.9.7? (Assume HNTR for now; the thought of trying to burn through 360hp worth of UV Cybie with pistols is giving me the fear.)
I'm thinking Scout may be the way to go; Marine seems to suck for pistols.

Sharpshooter Technician is also great and probably my favorite build due to the max dmg/knockback but people seem to favor gun kata equally if not more. Your choice really, I don't think that one is better than the other. Just personal preference.
Also by making technician you do get to make a stormbolter pretty early on due to easy-mode whizkid.

I don't like bullet dance, but a masterless marine pistol build has never failed me.
I like to go SoG->SoG->DG->SoG->Fin->Fin->WK->WK->EE->EE->Int->Int->SoG->SoG->
Make storm bolters and blow everything away. Alternatively you can get EE and Int2 before WK, getting a bit more safety earlier.
That said, the most popular (and rightfully) pistol build has to be sharpshooter and it really is quite awesome, though it can be until you reach it. Seeing as you are playing on HNTR, I'd advise you to try sharpshooter, but if you get owned too much before reaching it, try the masterless marine build.

Ah, I'd been following 0.9.9.5-ish instincts on my marine build: no DG, because DG slows you down when you're chewing through a bunch of glass cannons.
Edit: Now I just need to get a Phobos Base 2 that isn't a barrel garden :)

Scout GlassCannon. Start with this:
SoG->SoG->DG->SoG
then take EE (if you feel you need it).
For a Cybie you may take
HR->HR->DM
Aim for CatEye - but remember to take 4th and 5th SoG when it became available.
For weapons, I like Speedloaders - very useful when fighting bosses.

Slows you down? How is it so? And where do you see glass cannons among daemons?

... actually, no. I give up on AoMr permanently. Killing 200+hp of 4-armor boss with pistols is just too damned tedious.

lol...either you are a troll or you get disappointed waaaaay too easily...
You do empty your whole gun in just fragments of a second you know. That's what high lvls of SoG does. Cybie may never even move before getting a full barrage of max dmg bullets, or before you empty 2 guns on him. The only slight problem is the reload. And speaking of max dmg with sharpshooter for instance you actually get more ranged dps than most other builds (since you actually never miss due to the EE points), so I can't see where so much despair comes from.
You can easily do this in HMP too, you just haven't realized it yet. :P

... OK. I'll give Sharpshooter a try. (The XP budget's a little tight on HNTR, but never mind.)
I should point out that it's not damage-per-game-second that affects tedium for me, but damage-per-keystroke - on which no firearms build except possibly MAc+WK2 can compete with Bru3 + bulkmodded chainsaw.

I do understand that game can be tedious, but with that kind of approach I hardly see you stepping out of HNTR.

I wouldn't recommend going for Sharpshooter as first pistol experience. It's an awesome trait, and i think it's the coolest, but getting it isn't much fun.
I'd suggest playing Technician for easy access to WK and playing SoG-SoG-DG-SoG-EE-SoB-SoB-SoB with WK inserted when you get enough mods.

Angel of Berserk is never tedious (a bit too easy after the Cathedral, perhaps, but never tedious), Angel of Max Carnage is seldom tedious, and Angel of 100 doesn't have bosses in the usual sense.

Angel of Berserk is never tedious
Oh, you should try it on N!. After being killed before reaching Deimos a hundred times, you'll speak differently =)

One step at a time, eh? :)
-
Deimos? Heh, If you're going for Berserker Diamond, than you almost won if you reached Deimos. Or rather it's problem for all N! non-speedrunning high-kill games -Phobos is hellish nightmare while Deimos and Hell are harmless as long as you know what you're doing.
Added: lol, offtop.
-
I generally only go for Dualgunner if I get regenerating ammo early enough on; it's far too easy for me to forget the cardinal rule of Alt-Reloading.

Oh, you should try it on N!.
True. Especially YAAM N!.

MSs Technician is an unstoppable killing machine and never let anyone tell you otherwise. If you manage to create a storm bolter from a halfway decent base weapon (BLASTER!), you will blow everything to chunks with one burst, up to and including barons. You just need to position yourself correctly so the knockback doesn't knock them out of the line of fire. Most of the time I haven't had a problem with that even back in 0.9.9.6, but the way some people here talk about it, you'd think it is mathematically certain to happen whenever you press fire.

As the Spartans said to Alexander:
"If."

Sharpshooter is probably the best perk overall but I think GunKata is still really good. It gives you more survivability and it gets rid of the reload problem 99% of the time.
-
I'm sure it does, but I've never had any success when going for Gun Kata

I also favor masterless pistol builds, I think.
My ideal is more like
SoG->SoG->DG->SoG->EE->WK->HR->SoB->SoB->SoB->WK->EE->SoG->SoG
I don't see the point of going masterless if you don't plan to stack SoB and SoG.

Masterless works fine for all 3 classes. The extra life/zerk, or quick Int or quick medipacks makes it a pretty doable run. Not easy, but doable. Speedloaders are a pretty reliable pistol to build for, but throwing bulk mods onto pistols works fairly well as well. It depends on your EE level at the time.
Or just go for MSs or MGK. While you're at it, make a storm-bolter. Because we all get the mods for them every game, often enough for two or three of them. /sarcasm
But for reliability, just go for masterless and speedloaders/bulks. It'll get you to the end. Just.
