Title: [997G] Demons not active till you shoot at them.

So this is a little anoying bug I've noticed several times now.

If there's a vault, or sometimes, just L shaped corner and demons have spawned near them they will not move till they get hurt.
Several times now, usually when I play as techy, I find an early level vault, full of demons, I open the door move out and wait.. only to find they aren't moving.
Then when I find a map and look, walk around, etc, I see that they are not moving at all even when they have space to do so. I've also seen this a lot in maze levels.

So whats the deal with this? Cause this is frankly speaking anoying to deal with at early levels, specially with vaults.
I haven't seen any other monster be frozen like this, only demons.

It should be easy to reproduce if you play few techy rounds till an early level vault spawns.
Windows version, don't know if this applies in other versions.

This screen shot is from another vault at the same level. See how they actually, you know, move when I have done moves?
I'm pretty sure there is something up with this

Yup I noticed this as well in some of my runs. It's quite true. Not sure if it's a bug or not though.

Demons in vaults in early levels are a pure nightmare for some builds, especially if you haven't found a decent weapon yet.

Having to shoot them while getting inside vaults to make them chase you, some times means you just don't have enough time to run away and just die. xD

Even if it's not intentional it somehow serves as a challenge pretty well tbh. Or maybe it's just me.

I think I've seen the same behaviour in 0.9.9.6, but it may be more frequent now. (I often wait some thousands of turns in levels, and demons refusing to come on are... common)

IIRC, some lost souls happen to do the same, sometimes.  Hell's armory is a good example, I guess (or at least, was, in 0.9.9.6)

IIRC it's a bug caused by some code that's meant to make the melee enemies stick closer together when roaming. Without it, I suppose Deimos labs would be a whole lot easier.

The worst I've seen (in 996) is this:

Saw is many times too. But this isn't a bug, it's a feature of new melee AI (implemented in .995 afair).

I'm sure there's some medkit /armor/phase device under the deamon in the middle :)

Same applies with gift behind a river (which is probably a good strategy, never used it on purpose)

Oh!! So that's what happened there! Hilarious =)
Edit: So it's an example of this bug, but the result was similar.
