I started this challenge to try for the Ao100 silver badge, but was doing quite well, and decided to try pushing through to the end. Somewhere around level 40 I figured I may as well push for YAAM, too, but as you can see...

Anyway, I chose my early traits based on versatility, figuring that I'd specialize once I found a cool special weapon. I couldn't have asked for better that the Nuclear Plasma Rifle. Burst modded out, it killed everything short of Cyberdemons in 1-3 volleys. The best part of infinite ammo is definitely being able to make your own doors whenever you feel like it, though! Got my armor so high that I was shrugging off Mancubi like flies, and really was only threatened by Shamblers, and then only in packs. The tactical shotgun was WAY underpowered by the end, but it was super useful for it's ability to quickly knockback groups of enemies, so my rifle could recharge. I really didn't need anything for the last 30 or so levels, so I just kept my bag full of medkits as a just-in-case. I think in the latter 50 levels, I probably only used 5 or so. I ended up nuking the last level with a Invulnerability Globe I found right as I came down the stairs, which was nice because it got dreadfully tedious by then, and I didn't want to take any risks.

Wherever that last little &@$$+@&|] is hiding, I hope he's feeling mighty lonely...

Nice! Luckily the one missed kill does nothing 'cept sting your ego a little.

Masterless does work pretty well for Ao100, and nanomachic ammo is a sheer godsend. What made you choose Techinician over the other classes?

Really it was because I knew that on an easier difficulty like this I'd really likely only die to RNG shenanigans or my own stupidity, so I figured the near-instance item use would bail me out if I screwed up. The map usage is also pretty handy when almost every level spawns 1-2 maps. Sometimes it felt like I was playing a Cateye build, though I know that's just easy difficulty+Ao100 messing with there spawn rate.

Nice win! I've only recently started to respect the nuclear plasma rifle, I never reailsed before that it reloads 4 cells per turn, instead of 1, making it vastly superior to a nano modded one. Good call on the burst assembly - been thinking about that a little myself recently, but never had the right modpacks in my last nuclear plasma rifle game!

I actually find technicians the strongest class. Their instant item use, combined with their modding of uniques (cybernetic armour!) is stronger than the scout speed boost, imo.
That said, II don't pick technicians that often, because I find that the map use is more of a curse than a blessing when you're playing with tiles (for instance, I never pick up the map in military base, because I find being able to wait for 1000 turns n a split-second more useful than seeing all enemies).

Does anyone else feel that the marine class abilities aren't as strong as the others? Maybe I feel it because marines get nerfed on nightmare?

Seems like marines get the best master traits (generally speaking), but yeah, the base abilities are pretty weak, and not just on N!

Scout early game is relatively easy (end-game can be challenging), while Technician end-game is ridiculously strong at the expense of a slightly long build up.

Marine is sort of middle-of-the-road.  The Master traits are indeed powerful, but they trade off heavily against the ability to adjust equipment.  HP bonuses don't really add up all that much as dLev and difficulty goes up -- t'is better to not get hit than to tank it out.  Scouts can use their superior speed boosts to help dodge, while Technicians can build armour that can help deal with this.  The Marine is kind of stuck right there -- best way is to try and out-dakka the enemy, but god help you if you get hit.  That's why the Marine feels nerfed on N!, everything moves faster and hits more accurately on N! except the Marine.

Don't get me wrong.  Marines can hit very hard (see MAD, MAc), but DoomRL has evolved into a game of manoeuvring and position, and being slow can be fatal at higher difficulties.  To combat the relative slow movements, I would suggest trading some armour for speed, i.e. Tactical Boots and/or Tactical Armour, but more realistically, A-modded armour/phaseshift.  That allows ease of manoeuvring into position, and then one can rely on the heavy hitting Master traits to kill everything within sight before they nick DoomGuy.
