Title: doom *original* soundtrack
Post by: Stof on February 24, 2007, 17:12
For those of you that care for the REAL experience of doom music, I have uploaded here (http://chris.cavalaria.free.fr/doommusic/) a pack containing the genuine doom music.

Those tracks are in mp2 format ( no kidding! ) and were made by the man himself Robert Prince. Now woudl you say, why would those tracks be better than what you get using timidity or some other synthetiser? That's simple, it's because those tracks were produced with the exact same synthetiser Robert used when he created them, and thus only them represent the true vision of the music as it was intended by the author.

As an exemple, compare the original Doom 2 m31 music to any remix or software synth and tell in which you can hear the soldiers footsteps in ;)

All the Doom 1 and Doom 2 musics are in the zip file. Good luck!

Works for me. I'll upload a par2 fixing file.

You can now find all files here (http://chris.cavalaria.free.fr/doommusic/)

Oh, BTW, do you know how to make/modify MOD's? I'm in a need of someone who could recompose some ambient music from a given MOD file...

Although talking about MOD files sure does reminds me on the old days, MOD editing was done by someone I knew on his Amiga. I never could do it myself sorry :)

I could certainly give it a shot, I've been tracking MODs and XMs since 1995.

I just tried this, and I can hear the footsteps with almost every soundfont I fed into timidity++ (it doesn't always exactly sound like footsteps, but what the better fonts produce is ok). Though I have to agree these files sound a good deal better (except for sound quality) than my midi experiments.
