When I put my chaingun as prepared weapon I can't access it via the "6"-key
on second thought this is probably meant to be so, so that you can't accidentally switch prepared weapons the more time-consuming way,
still the message says "You don't have a chaingun!" which is kinda misleading

I don't think I'd have ever thought to try that. Mostly what I do is turn off Numpad, then use that to move around and try to keep my weapon count down to 2 or 3 at most, and if I've got three I get my third with 'i' and my second with 'z'. This ain't like Doom where you can haul around all those weapons and need to know how to switch 'em around on the fly - you don't have the space to haul everything, or even every kind of ammo!
But yeah, this would be good to fix.

I don't think this is a bug, the numbers activate only weapons that are in your inventory, and a prepared weapon is technically "equipped", so it's no longer in inventory. You just have to remember what weapon you have in the prepared slot ;-)

Though I haven't used the shortcuts for weapons for some time, I think it would make sense to swap weapons when you press the shortcut for the weapon in your secondary weapon slot.

Just out of curiosity, what will happen if you have a Chaingun readied, a pistol in your prepared slot, a pistol in your inventory, and you push the key for pistol? Will it swap, or pull the one in from your inventory? I would prefer to have it pull from inventory, but I could see others prefering it to swap. Does it make a time difference in-game?

It will always swap if possible, because swapping is faster.
