-- General ---------------------------------------------------

66 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 54 of those were killed.
1 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 9 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 2 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
2 killed the bitch and survived.

It was pretty fun! After being frustrated with trying to get anywhere on M and H, I decided to just go for ITYTD win. Melee proved to be much more exciting than my masterless rapid-fire character. Any tips from you guys on surviving on higher difficulties? Obviously, playing a ton of doomrl would help, but what about tactics or preferred builds? I've found that my shotgun and pistol build usually patter out past cybie, and surviving early melee game sucks. I already corned shoot, so that's nice, and I usually avoid special levels on other difficulties(barring chained court).

thelaptop: Hi!  Welcome to the forums.  Remember to use mortem tags for mortems next time you post.  =)

Welcome to the forums, and nice win!  I see you've discovered my favourite build, Vampyre!  :)  I wonder who was the one guy who got away.  :P

Basic tips:  Use the terrain to your advantage; seek cover whenever possible so that as few enemies as possible can shoot you at a time.  (Preferably one at a time)  Speaking for myself, my early games benefitted from Tough as Nails and Ironman since I hadn't mastered avoiding getting hit, but later on, I found it more helpful to get Son of a Bitch so I could kill them faster and/or Hellrunner to evade them better or get into a better position to avoid damage.

Beyond that, it depends on your playstyle, I think.  If you'd like to see an example of how I play it, it just so happens that I very recently made a recording of myself winning a Conqueror game at Ultraviolence.  Here's the mortem. (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,7233.0.html)  :)

Congrats! It took me a long time to get to winning on anything higher than ITYTD too. But you should try to go for Sharpshooter if you like pistols. You'll hit a point where you get a TON of reliability out of your shots, which makes decision-making and risk assessment a lot more simple. It's tough to get to it, but since you mentioned dwindling out in the late game...
