So, I recently downloaded the latest version of DoomRL, version 0997, windows build. I had a technician at Phobos Level 7. Too bad I was forced to kill myself. Because IMMEDIATELY upon entering the level, I spawned in a teeny-tiny-tiny-tiny box with zero moving room, and no, I did not have a weapon capable of blasting through it.
First playthrough, which was going so well, ended because the random map gen wouldn't play fair.
Is this supposed to happen?

This sounds very unusual and definitely shouldn't happen. (I've played a lot and never seen it happen in this version before) Just to clarify, you were surrounded by walls on all 8 sides of you? Did you take a screenshot, by any chance?

Yeah, up to date there was no single valid report of a level without exit - usually it's because people don't know you can move diagonally :P
-
Fairly certain diagonal movement was also a no-go.
I'll have to assume it was a fluke then. If it happens again, I will definitely grab you guys a screenshot.

Feature request: make a mention of the ability to move diagonally in the little tutorial thing, lol

Too bad I was forced to kill myself...
It just occurred to me, did the game generate a mortem? (I probably should have asked that first) If you quit by pushing shift-Q, then never mind, but if you killed yourself, the game should have created a mortem file that you can view afterward. Look in the mortem folder and see if you can find one for that day and post it here if there is one.

If he was able to generate a mortem, he should have been able to get out - short of the floor being acid or lava, all the ways to suicide can also destroy walls.
