Title: [E|99%|9] YASD: How I almost finished the wall...
Post by: MedO on May 05, 2007, 17:27: I did manage this level a few times, on higher difficulties as well, but failing so closely...
Not much to add, really. It's all in the mortem.

Medium, on the other hand, I've only ever pulled off twice.

Post by: Jered Cain on May 07, 2007, 07:13: Back in .985, I used to pull off the Wall quite easily, even on Hurt Me Plenty. Then again, by that time, I either had Intuition3 or I got it there.

Cheating, I know. But this was back when the only reward was a brand spanking new rocket launcher.

Post by: MedO on May 07, 2007, 11:04: Int3 would not have helped a lot: I hit hell knights with almost every burst anyway. Maybe I should stand back some more... or just carry more medkits when I enter (I think I had two, both large ones).

Post by: TFoN on May 08, 2007, 10:59: As long as I have 20-30 rockets on entry, I don't think I've failed to kill 'em all once, on any difflvl. And 20-30 rockets are either found on becoming Champion of Hell's Arena or, on higher difflvls, spawn often enough, and with a RL, to make it "standard issue".

Post by: TFoN on May 08, 2007, 11:27: From my experience Intuition(3)'s not required - by again using the center horizontal line AI quirk, you know that ~3 turns after hitting them with a rocket, at least one'll be right in front of you even if you can't see them. On v0987 you have the 50% miss chance, which changes this considerably, but waiting 'till you can see one has worked for me just fine, and at least you know that if you miss him, there's a better chance there'll be another one behind your original target than on any other horizontal line.

When I entered I had just enough rockets to blow through the wall, because I passed the Arena earlier. I didn't have adequate weapons and only two small medkits IIRC.

The Arena has 27 rockets! Where and on what did you use ~23 rockets before the wall on ITYTD??? Oo
