-- General ---------------------------------------------------
Before him 20 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
20 of those were killed.
--------------------------------------------------------------
After seeing this done earlier (and whipping the special ending) I had to try it for myself.
Didn't find a single nuke, so no hope for the same glory, though...
I'd never been to the Mortuary before, so I didn't know quite what to expect...
I should have had a little more patience and cleaned it up, because I think I could have.
I did kill three archviles, but I wasn't sure if they were reviving each other, or if the place
would be limited to the 4 that I read where there.
Cyberdemon...a joke with that pistol. He fired once...I fired about 30 times...
I intend to try this again on a harder difficulty and see how far I can push it.
It was nice to play AoMr and not just be stuck with the same crappy gun the whole time.

The only reason viles will ever rez each other is if they are in each other's LOS. If you kill two on the one side of the room, unless the other two make it over there the ones you kill are effectively dead. If you do find two within your LOS at the same time, take them both down in health before they get their turns, then kill both before they get a chance to raise or fire off a flame pillar again.
-
I'll keep that in mind.
I think the two on the left managed to rez each other once, but after cleaning up that half, a third made it to the middle.
I didn't bother finding the fourth, because I was a little worried I'd deplete my ammo reserves too much in the process.
I'll be better prepared this time around.

AVs don't ressurect each other! As i know... Or i missed something?
-
Well, they were out of my LoS when I thought they resurrected, but I definitely saw one leave a corpse...

AVs can definitely raise each other if one leaves a corpse. This happened to me once in an AoMr game when my speed wasn't quite up to snuff and it made me pretty nervous until I finally managed to weaken both enough to make it possible to kill both before either one could react.
-
Hmm. I always thought they can't. That's unfair. In original DooM AV can ressurect anything but other AVs, Cyberdemons and Mastermind Spiders.
Kornel, they really can ressurect each other?
-
Seems like they should be a corpse-less creature...they're some sort of wraith more than anything else, right?
I mean...a self-immolating skeleton shouldn't really have much left over when the flame goes out.
-
I'm pretty sure AV's can't ressurect other AV's. They leave a nameless corpse (well its unique to AV corpse, but different to normal corpses).
-
They really shouldn't. Not in the original, and really not in here, 'less it's a bug or it's attended for DRL.
Kornel...

Fighting 3-4 AVs side by side, killing them one at a time and with them having time to react (having slow, unmodded weapons), I have never seen an AVs resurrect another AV. So the way I see it, they can't. If I'm wrong, then I'm one lucky bastard :P
-
I think you're just a lucky bastard. :P Try and get in another situation like that, with no other corpses or monsters around, and see if it happens again. I KNOW what I saw.. I didn't just imagine killing one AV only to watch it being raised again to my horror... It may have only been one game, but I don't intend on taking chances.

[ Weapon ] advanced pistol (2d10) [8/13] (D3R3S3M3)
How did you get that ? Didnt damage mods only give +1 to damage ? Thus, shouldnt it be 2d7 ?

It could be done with use of the bug that i described here (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php?topic=902.0).

This happens often enough playing on UV, and I doubt I'm that lucky. Anyway, the other day I had a chance to fight 2 AVs and something else. One AV was alive, the other two dead. The AV resurrects that 3rd monster, and as I'm working to kill it again, I remember this thread, and keep an eye on the out-of-LOS AV corpse. Nothing seemed to happen. I'm 90% sure there was nothing else for the AV to resurrect, especially considering that the 3rd creature was resurrected again the moment I killed it. My guess is that what you saw was another AV moving on to the corpse of a previous AV, which could be a corpse quite far into your LOS, considering AVs are very fast on the move.
-
I've never seen an AV take more than a single step since mods were introduced and I started making full use of the speed mods/traits on AoMr. Not once. I'll admit, I don't play the higher levels of difficulty, and I don't run across AVs a whole lot, and I only saw it happen once. What I remember of that time was that the living and dead AV were both within LOS, though. It wasn't on the most recent version, either (a beta as I recall), but we probably would have heard of it if something like AVs leaving a corpse was changed. I may test this at some point, and if it happens again, you can bet I'll take a screenshot of it.

Check out, i think that message will appear that "Arch-Vile suddenly raised from the dead".
-
And with the new message buffer, this shouldn't be too difficult to catch if it happens.
