On the note of balancing Intuition and Cateye, I think one way could be to remove Cateye entirely (or make it a 1-level secondary trait) and make Intuition a master trait, combining the two levels into one.

Personally I'm in support of the idea of having Ammochain simply require that you not reload, eating ammo straight out of your inventory.

 If that's not good enough for a master trait, a secondary effect could be that you get a shot bonus to chainfire, giving you more shots than you would normally.

From the two mortems I've seen, the mostly likely means of qualification are the Berserker trait, Tough as Nails, or to be playing the Angel of Berserk challenge mode, though I really doubt Kornel would restrict the use of a unique to a challenge mode.

Rapidfire is an interesting idea, but it really exacerbates the issue of clip size for pistoleros.

A good pistol build that focuses on damage could be one that gives pistol shots penetration, making it easier to deal with crowds without having to hide in a corner and reload.

People don't play roguelikes because they're easy to beat. If people aren't playing DoomRL because it's 'too hard' (which it really isn't at ITYTD or HNTR) then they're not the target audience for the game.

It remains to be seen how much harder the game will be after the bug is fixed. Reminder that it was affecting the player as well, potentiall making the game easier in some aspects.

I'd honestly prefer it if the game rewarded agility over the ability to sit on a corner and exploit a line-of-fire bug. It's a bit tangential to the topic, but I'd be interested to see a Gun Kata-style bonus after a successful dodge, encouraging players to behave more agressively.

I know this is going back ages, even to the previous thread, but I really liked Angel Of Death, the challenge which forces you to get 100% kills on each level. While it wouldn't be initially difficult, higher difficulties and the lowest levels would hurt, since you wouldn't be able to escape the arachnotron caves and mancubi packs and whatnot.

This is getting ridiculous. Having Kornel as a super-supercharged version of the Cyberdemon would be boring as hell, even if it summons five million mancubi a second and has TWO BFGs and hurf hurf hurf

Just jam his head on a stick and put him on level 100, with the ability to summon a handful of randomly-chosen enemies, with the RNG favouring high-tier foes.

Ah... I see what you folks are thinking.  But all these are in the spirit of Doom -- wasn't the last boss a certain John Romero head-stump talking in reverse?

Actually, I was thinking about using Kornel as a final boss for Ao100, one that truly tests the mettle of a level 20 marine, as opposed to yet another vile-pack.

That's certainly an idea. However, by the time the player gets to level 100 they're going to be so tricked out with traits and gear that it'd need to be insanely powerful to be a genuine threat. And if it's a genuine threat, that means your Ao100 run you've just burnt four hours on may go up in smoke at the very last hurdle...
