Remember a single thing.
As long as you won't happen to win on the difficulty levels a few times, don't take much chances and play cowardly. Very. If you are surrounded - assume that you won't be able to kill them in direct combat. Hit TAB and run the crap away.
Actually, assume that you won't be able to kill ANYTHING in direct combat and you should be fine.

Also, ITYTD wall is easy much, just remember to not run in screaming and firing in all directions(which is what you probably do as you say you were surrounded). Camp at the wall and rocketlaunch everything that dares to come out. It's reward, is, well, rewarding, the backpack will increase your max ammo per stack by 40%, effeciently allowing you to carry more or to leave more space for other things. And the missile launcher is epic. Rapes bruiser brothers even better than a chaingun.

Computers DO randomly crash.
But you are pretty right, the thing is that my machine is shit. I ventilate the thing almost every day, but my coolant fan is about to die. While it still seems to be sufficient normally, I used to speed up my processors often when I wanted to play some CPU eating games - now I won't even dare, since it's a sure death for it. Moreover, my bro thinks that some of my hardware works not really like it should - he failed to identify where exactly is the bug, but he said that it is pretty much why I keep getting random BSODs. Seeing that the whole thing is shitty enough, I decided to just scrap this computer and buy a new one.

But the problem is that I am a poor man.
One of my mates who I introduced DoomRL to actually savescums SO MUCH that he created a batch file to backup and restore his save files.
Meh. Should do that too.

What shouldyour mate try next is to learn how to save/load in the middle of the game. Since the game cannot do that itself(yet), he will have to go the way of messing up with DooM RL memory. Like, dump the whole memory in a text file and when the need arises swap the current memory with what you got in that text file. I doubt he will actually succeed(I actually doubt that I will), but if he will, I will personally award him with a Savescummer badge, lol.

Not for me. I like being punshied for my own mistakes, but not for my computer deciding to crash all of a sudden.

Because I don't want it to be ruined by a random BSOD.
Thrust me, it will come out of nothingness if I even dare. That will happen exactly when mastermind/JC will be almost dead.
Technically, I do not recover saves if I get killed by enemies, I just keep one in case my computer decides to explode. And as a talisman(lol).

I don't think it will. Diablo is counted as a rogue like by many, many, many players(providing that they know what it is in the first place!), and, guess what, it is realtime.
But the turn-based action should definitely stay. Realtime could be an addon or something...
...or, perhaps, that mysterious Doom RL 2 being spoken about will be realtime?
Dunno.

How about just an ammo count somewhere on the status line? Counts up and displays the amount in your inventory for the current weapon normally, displays the amount left in an ammochain when one is equipped.
Fourth that. I already suggested it before, BTW.

Just remembered.
While in 0.9.9.5 commiting a stupid suicide via Q-Y generates a mortem and adds to the death counter, while on 0.9.9.6 it doesn't. At least in graphical version.
I consider this as bug.

Same also happened with me while fighting some random baron. I've been on 2% hp as usual, so that pretty much saved my ass.

That can be... interesting. After all, real time roguelikes exist. Or, at least, roguelike-likes.
Doubt Kornel will bother with it, but hell, someone might do that.

I do savescum when I savescum, but the problem is, I do not savescum. At least when I savescum.

Well, "really badly" means the state when I am about to break my keyboard with my knee, and since I managed to break a KNEE instead of a keyboard once, that rarely happens. Still, as I am currently in transition from HNTR to HMP, so I am pretty close. Managed to hold myself from it... YET.

This is a great idea actually. A generator that is capable of making levels of at least Wolfenstein level(lolwords) it will be just great. It will be also plausible for console version, I mean, cmon! Dungeon crawl has quite sosciphicated levels in console version too.
Also, maybe some random generation for special levels? So, well, the monster placement and item types won't be the ONLY difference between each play.

Lol, cybie is so easy.
Just keep strafing around him, this way you will easily dodge incoming rockets. Don't forget to keep away from pillars(splash damage) and keep distance, too. After he fires, blast him until he will reload. Then continue sidestrafing until he fires, blast him, and repeat until it's dead. If you don't mess up with the walls, easy win with no hp loss.
This is ecpesially effective since you don't have to reload.

Mwah, this same YASD happened to me a few times here or there.
Berserk/invul seem to be really bitchin on HMP, they always run out whenever you've just got that badass in your melee range. And exactly in the same turn, everyone around decides to finally wake up and fire at you from all directions. And they get an aimbot when they do so.

I know.
I do not savescum unless I die due to REALLY stupid reason, like mentioned above, or something like a mancubus coming out of nothingness and one hit killing me at 100% health without even giving me a turn to react. Or unless I am frustrated really badly.
I take permadeath as a part of roguelikes. It adds a bit of gamble(should I dare to clear the mortuary?), proves some kind of "determination test", and makes me fear things BADLY. I like fearing things badly.
But I still keep a backup save in case of a major messup.

Are theese savegames? If so, yes, I tend to save myself very often, since my computer tends to give out a BSOD randomly for no reason. So I generated a habit of saving almost each level to ensure that I have a backup in case my computer decides to mess me up.

Also, a protection against ultimately stupid deaths like "pressed Left key while lavawalking too much times and couldn't stop when envirosuit ran out". Happens really often in Lava pits.
