Has anyone ever wielded the Dragonslayer and died before getting to Mastermind?
I think I have as much of an issue (for the lack of a better word) with Gutt's Heart as I do with the GC Cross, as they're both "find an item and kill the 'last' boss with it". Though in contrast, I quite like Malicious Knives Cross/Sunrise Iron Fist/"YAAM on some challenge" badge, since those require a different style of play, and maybe even use one or two weapons (or no weapons!).
Maybe we should have a medal that requires having a certain percentage of kills that you weren't the direct cause of...
I'd say the only reliable way to get Fallout Gold/Platinum is the Trigun early enough, knowing what the Angel Arm does, and knowing how to survive it. It's certainly more reliable than waiting for the RNG gods to hand you nukes.
After that it's a matter of asking yourself, "Do I want to explode a chunk of the Phobos Base, and possibly miss out on heals, mod packs, ammo, armors...all of which I won't need--but get a floor's worth of EXP for a measly 5 maxHP? And then repeat this for some shinies on my player profile?"

No option for Fallout Gold/Platinum?

I voted Gambler's Shield and Iron Skull.
I guess the point of Gambler's Shield is to pull random levers, which is kinda subverted if you have one point into Intuition, since you know the effects of the random levers that you're randomly pulling.
Iron Skull seems like a grind to get, and funnily enough, you can't get it in the modes where the game turns into a grind. (Ao100/Ar666)
Also, I've gotten Cyberdemon's Head and Mastermind's Brain without invulnerability, in the form of Gunrunner + Missile Launcher for Cybie, and Gunrunner + Super Shotgun for Mastermind. I've only gotten Shambler's Head once though, and it was straight-up luck...though Gunrunner may have been involved. Don't remember.

Post Mortem / Re: [M|AoLT|97%|YAVP] Still no AoB + Leaky Acid-proof Galoshes
« on: April 08, 2013, 12:51 »I had acid-proof boots on for a good part of the run, which worked fine most of the time. In one instance, halfway through Hell, I had to squeeze between an acid barrel and lava river to get to a Baron on the other side. The Baron shot and naturally destroyed the acid barrel, and the pool it formed ate right through my boots (then at about 35% durability), taking about 3-4% health per turn. Is this a bug, or does the resistance decrease with the durability?
If I understand the question correctly, all armors, once damaged, lose resistance(s). Once you repair them though, the lost resist(s) are returned.
Edit: Oh. Too slow.
As for my own Angel of Berserk vs. Angel of Light Travel experience: I've always had more trouble on AoB compared to AoLT, but then again I attempt AoB more than LT. I think my wins on AoLT in 0.9.9.6 were with an Army of the Dead build, though I think the bread-and-butter build for LT is Ammochain...
I die on Light Travel because I make silly mistakes.
I die on AoB because I refuse to progress until I can clear the Arena. :|

That second special stage is interesting, all right. Went in thinking I could shoot everyone down with MSs without too much difficulty (like I always do) and to my surprise I can't use anything that I've collected.
The first special stage is a pain if, in my case, a Hell Knight fires straight down the corridor and explodes the barrels on the other side of the stage. Happened to me a few times in my attempts to clear out Experiment.
It's fun though. Played on HNTR and noticed that the spawn rates were similar to that of a standard HMP game. Quite like it.
EDIT: Playing through again currently with a Vampyre build...Experiment is a lot easier now, heh. Also the experimental weapons/armors! Very...interesting. 6d5 combat knife, 2d1 pistol with a 1 bullet clip...3 AC blue armor with no resists...Yes. Interesting.
EDIT 2: this combat knife has blademaster what

I think after my AoMr + Ao100 run, I've grown fond of pistols.
Specifically, Sharpshooter. Unforuntately, I didn't have anything interesting to make, and I built a speedloader rather early on. I didn't really notice what mods I had in the beginning, and the thought of using the mods to make anything didn't come to mind either. I think I had already descended into Phobos-2 before I realized that I started with two T-mods, so having an early speedloader was out of the question.
Barring a few instances, this run was fairly uneventful...though there were certainly a lot more levels with a ton of barrels. One of them had to be a mancubus-only floor, too...Military Base was generous with 10mm ammo chains, and at one point I had five of them in my inventory at one time. Speedloaders with an ammo chain seem kinda excessive, but I don't mind it one bit.
Deimos Lab was nice with the ammo chains too. And speaking of Deimos Labs, the double shamblers! I think I've found a mostly flawless plan of attack on the double shamblers, and that is: release the shamblers, run to the double supercharges (assuming you didn't use them already), wait for the shamblers to teleport near you, and fight. Use the supercharges as needed. Deimos Lab gave me not one, but TWO onyx armors. O-modded Duelist Armor is kinda funny, and OP-modded Duelist Armor is also kinda amusing.
Cyberdemon gave me a LOT of grief. I burned through all my heals and, if I didn't O-mod my Duelist Armor, I probably would have died at Cyberdemon. I think as a rule of thumb, I should enter the Cybie battle with at least one point into Hellrunner for some dodge, since someone removed the dodge chance from tactical boots for 0.9.9.7.
>:(
Hell was uninteresting, from what I remember. Lava Pits was a bad mistake. I think I took over 200 damage on Lava Pits. It was a huge and unnecessary risk, and nothing exotic/unique even spawned. It was all normal armors. Had I not made environmental plasteel boots, I would have easily melted in the lava, due to long periods of time spent standing on lava while sniping revenants from a distance. Even then, there were a few times when I stepped in lava in tactical boots. Not fun. :(
I remember going into Lava Pits specifically for the Lava Elemental, as I had a thermo in my inventory from earlier. But as I was getting ready to descend into Dis, I decided to opt out of getting a full win, since I wasn't entirely sure if I could take on JC. If I had a decent weapon, I might have at least attempt the full win.
First standard win on Ultra-Violence, and also, unintentional platinum! Not the same platinum I got from 0.9.9.6--that one was for getting all the advanced assemblies. This is kinda nice. The run lasted as long as it did because I walked away a few times to take a break (didn't feel like saving), and I was distracted a few times. And I was being a bit cautious at times.

Is there a time limit for the Quartermaster Angelic? Either way, I think you could have afforded to stop for a brief moment to read your surroundings.

The level feeling indicating a lever that floods the entire floor with lava reads as following:
"You feel that smell? That gasoline smell? Oh hell..."
I'm not sure how to feel about "feeling" a smell; I usually smell smells. You know, with my nostrils, on my nose...
How about "You smell that? It reeks of gasoline...Oh hell..." or something similar.
...Why is it gasoline, anyway?

I can see this being something like Intuition 1.5, or a trait that a Technician might have. The thing is, Technicians already have a computer map-related perk...
How about instead some shades or other form of eye wear that temporarily shows all the items on a floor and expires like an invuln/zerk/light amp/envirosuit?

This run was mostly experimentation and generally derping around.
Mostly wanted to see what worthwhile pistol builds were good for just AoMr. Made a storm bolter because 10mm ammo is fairly frequently dropped (especially in crowds of former humans with viles--10mm ammo for days). There were an abundance of arachnotrons throughout this run (and I even made a VBFG at one point) so I guess I could have made an energy gun. I toyed with the idea of making demolition ammo, but then the Blaster appeared, and then a Blaster+B3P2 happened.
For some reason I completely forgot that I could have possibly made a potentially useful assembly out of the Blaster with the abundance of mods that I had, but instead I chose to throw every B and P mod I had on hand until I couldn't fit any more mods onto the thing.
About the run itself, though...
Not much to say about my trait build. Rushed Sharpshooter, got two levels into Whizkid (A-modded tactical armor, hehe), two levels into Intuition, and then more DPS, more speed, more utility. This run got noticeably easier around the time I assembled my storm bolter combat pistol, and I was fortunate to have found several hordes of former captains hanging around the viles, on several floors. I quite like having to fight bosses at the end of the run. Today I learned that the Lava Elemental makes a noise when it dies.
Having enviroboots meant I could be a complete jerkwad and cornershoot while standing on lava. Highly amusing, vastly hilarious. (Until I derped up and took a Mancubus rocket to the face.)
And now let's talk about the items.
If I wasn't playing AoMr + Ao100, I might have been able to derp around even more. I guess having AoMr paired with Ao100 actually saved me from doing something potentially dangerous, especially since I nearly died a few times after 50. Would have loved using the new weapons I found in this run. Actually, it would have been nice to have used any of the two nuclear plasma rifles, any of the four napalm launchers, the Acid Spitter, any of the two assault shotguns...the BFG...
And just for kicks, at one point I had a minigun+B3.
Oh, and Berserker Armor. That was amusing. Didn't come across the Dragonslayer. I don't know what my reaction would have been if I came across it.
I saved at around 36F to take a break, and then I came back and powered through the rest of Ao100. To the best of my memory I have cleared Ao100 twice--the first time was on 0.9.9.6 on HNTR and that took me about five hours over the course of four different sittings. So, not bad.
I was sure that this would have filled up my Hell Baron kill quota, but when I finished I was still of Hell Knight rank. Still need another 48 Baron kills.
Question, though.
While having maximum fire resist from both parts of the Inquisitor set equipped, I took a Cyberdemon rocket to the face. Of course, I took no damage, but my kill streak was reset. How does the game determine when to reset my kill streak, aside from just taking damage from damage floors or enemy attacks? It seems strange that the kill streak reset itself even though I took zero damage from an attack.

Oh wow. That's a low blow. "here have a missile launcher to get out--oh wait"

Opinion time!
Any chance Skull Silver (clear City of Skulls/Abyssal Plains on Angel of Red Alert) is easier on Abyssal Plains, since Agony Elemental is fixed to spawn near the stairs?
