Both this and my last decent start had trouble getting into a position to shoot the arch-viles in a V/M group. If I shoot a mancubus, I have to pause to reload and it gets raised.  It might even get raised before I reload.  This time I tried to move around the group hoping to keep it out of sight and look for the arch-vile on the other side, but I ended up seeing everything at once while near the south wall and that was not ideal.  Any quick tips?  still trying for 100% so I didn't want to flee.

my next guess is shooting at the group for a clip or two offscreen to injure one or two of them, reloading, and then approaching - hoping to thus kill a mancubus with enough bullets left over to get the V when I see it.

and finding 5 power mods before whizkid was pretty neat, if space-consuming :) (the 5th was on BP red armor)

Firing weapons that use weird firing mechanics like the Angel Arm "reload".  This allows the use of angel arm in challenges which restrict weapon type.

yes, and that also makes the Trigun and Beretta behave oddly with dualreload / Gun Kata.  making their "specials" not "reloads" would kill two birds with one stone.

I feel that the nuclear weapons are less abusive since they self-destruct and thermonuclear bombs are generally allowed anyway, but they could be changed too for consistency.

edit: on second thought, just making all of those special actions use the alt-fire instead of alt-reload (replacing their current alt-fires, thus also making them more different from the normal weapons) might work.  it would prevent use in weapon-related challenges, since you can't fire them.

nice work - my realization that 100% wasn't always the best idea was the only way I could pass AoB.  and the plus side of skipping UC, you aren't tempted to go die in Mortuary to complete the set.

and for the record, you could have used the Angel Arm since it's a reload, not a [f]ire.

badges and medals work oppositely in that.  I believe it's intentional, though if changed I'd hope it was to make medals friendlier.

I'm trying to win Ao100 with a few restrictions, so can I feel that I earned the badge:
  • no Ammochain
  • no Intuition 2
  • as much offense as I can (not necessarily right away, but all appropriate offense traits should be picked)
  • 100% kills (of course, I might have to abandon this as I've never seen the deeper areas - might be unrealistic)
The plan is shotguns and pistols, shifting towards the pistols more and more as I progress (no shottyman planned)

This was my first meeting with arch-viles, and a nice jackhammer to help deal with the second one!   The flooding lever was helpful too.  Now, to go back to where I left that small medpack.  All the enemies are dead, just hold down RIGHT.  ? I'm dead?!?!  Oh yeah, a lava barrel got detonated there.  From a distance lava looks like water...

Congrats, AoMs is quite brutal.  for some reason I could never make progress when starting with TaN/Badass - my victory went
EE->EE->Int->Int->SoB->SoB->TH->MCe->HR->HR->DM->Iro

I needed the "easy-mode" of Int 2, with EE making a useful chaingun on the way.

I'm surprised you weren't able to clear the Lava Pits with this run - or did you not have the envirosuits?

I'd say "no".
This way monsters will notice you before they even see you, and levels will basically consist of standing in a position, making some noise, killing the waves of curious monsters, go somewhere else and repeat it until all is cleared.
Now at least you have to clear out room per room, like Doom is supposed to be played.

EDIT: Also it'll be even more unfair for the player if he's playing with no sound. :|

I mostly agree with this, but the no-sound player won't be adversely affected.  He'll know when he's doing something that makes noise, he doesn't need to hear it.

I actually found Brick Silver easier on AoB - phasing into the middle of the group can be really bad on AoMr.

Nice run.  I've been trying to pistol my way through Ao100 and undecided which flavour of mods would be best - for some reason I assumed that Bulk were worthless as they would only add 1 shot per gun.  Not sure where I got that idea, as Bulk BFG-modding taught me how it works.

num-5 definitely has a mapping - Joy2Key calls it CLEAR, a python reference called it BEGIN.  neither worked.  Dungeon Crawl uses it to wait, though I don't know what they call it.

I was wondering if it's possible to change the colours of the following items in color.ini - and if so, what are the IDs:

staircase (stairs, rstairs, ystairs all had no effect)
the out-of-sight monster from Intuition 2 (alternately, blood on the floor)
Backpack


http://doom.chaosforge.org/wiki/index.php?title=Item_IDs is what I've been using for a ID reference, quite handy!  the default colours of the objects would be nice additions, trying to remember if a given object is BLUE or LIGHTBLUE or LIGHTCYAN etc can be tough.

and with keybindings in doomrl.ini, how would one refer to the numeric keypad's "5" (numlock off, so the key between the arrows)?
