It still requires quite a bit of luck, I just tried the same tactic on HMP 6 times and always got blasted or eaten during the first 3 levels....

And even further down although the AI sometimes moved when it could have shot allowing me to slip past or back to cover, it wasn't often enough to try doing it all the time. Luck with stairs usually played a lot bigger role than the AI.

Large health packs are supposed to give berserk, but only in AoB.

Yeah, having most of the assemblies only require basic mods would also be a nice solution.

I don't mind rare/unique mods being hard to find, I mind the fact that they make many of the assemblies too hard to get - not only do you need to find or scavenge the mod, you also need to do so during a run where you have or can still get WK/WK2.

It will be interesting to see what Game Hunter comes up with :)

Unless you're using Scavenger or playing Ao100, all the exotic and unique mods are so damn rare that most of the current assemblies are too damn luck dependent. When you finally find a cool mod, there's not enough levels left to get WK anymore. Or you found a Sniper mod and it's an AoB run.

If you could make exotic mods from enough basic mods, and uniques from basics and exotics, it would make the whole process so much less frustrating.

It would be better to have the assembly recipes all visible as they're pretty much a core part of Technician's arsenal.
Or have the seen assemblies tied to ranks; each new rank you get would show new assemblies you'd then know how to make.

Perhaps there should also be a couple of secret recipes that could only be found by experimentation though...

I noticed there's a voting going on at http://roguelikedeveloper.blogspot.com/2011/12/request-for-votes-ascii-dreams.html for Roguelike of the Year 2011.

Voting is still open for 4 days and you can vote for multiple games you like. I already voted for DoomRL and Desktop Dungeons.

DoomRL is currently 10th or so, I'd say it deserves to be higher :)

I usually just exited through the back door, shot the enemies on the sides from there (using the doorway to cornershoot) and only then got the chainsaw and berserk pack and charged through the front door.
