Post Mortem / [M|AoSh|YAAM|YAVP] Spider Mastermind is a Pansy

I think I was blessed by the Random Number Gods for this run.
Shortly after clearing Hell's Arena, I stumbled upon a super shotgun and a red armour. I promptly discarded the double and continued on my merry way, collecting up to seven blue armours at one point. On the way to Deimos I started progress on a fireshield. Cleared the Anomaly with little trouble, and then I tried my luck again at Deimos Lab. Prior attempts have all ended badly. By this point I had two envirosuits in my inventory. There I found another super shotgun, and the resources to make two thirds of a fireshield, and after killing both shamblers, half of a fireproof armour. I also learned how to make a speedloader pistol. I also found a unique mod, but I don't think the firestorm mod helps shotguns much.
Next floor gave me the rest of the fireproof armour supplies, and I had attained Fireangel before spanking the cyberdemon. A few floors later, I assembled another fireproof armour because I could (when is this ever a valid justification). Along the way I also picked up a gothic armour and had a supply of pristine blue armours.
And then, Dis...
I had reached the Spider Mastermind a few times in 0.9.9.6, all of which ended with me reduced to a red smear. I have reached Dis twice now in 0.9.9.7.
0.9.9.7 HNTR Spider Mastermind is a pansy.
With my shotguns, I was hoping to build a nano-shrapnel super shotgun and/or a plasmatic shrapnel super shotty. I never found any advanced mods other than the firestorm weapons pack. I also never found the Jackhammer :<.
Two classes down, one to go. Maybe I'll deviate from AoSh... Or maybe post a mortem from less successful runs...

you learned an important lesson early that took a long time for me to learn: not all special levels have to be explored/beaten, running away or skipping them is a perfect option
5 tries for 1st win, and an angel win ? Damn !
My first win was probably my 2nd or 3rd game... but ITYTD, not HNTR ! (and also, not angel of something, even Shotgunnery. No RL or BFG use looks like a significant difference to me).
It was my fifth attempt in 0.9.9.7. I attempted 0.9.9.6 66 times with a 0% win rate. Of those deaths, one was to nuking myself. I have three mortems for 0.9.9.4; those also ended with me dying in various horrible/hilarious ways.
Don't forget to "run" to cross acid rivers or lava filled rooms : it halves the damages taken.
This I will have to keep in mind for the future.

It's been a few days since I killed my way to my first standard victory, so I don't really remember my run too clearly. I didn't clear two (three if counting the Containment Area) floors; one (Hell Lv1) had the floor split in two by a river of acid (that I was too chicken to cross) and a lever in the room containing the exit stairs that I pulled...and flooded the room with lava. Oops. A few large-medpacks to the stairs and some distribution of shot in subsequent floors later... Floor 2 (Hell Lv4) contained a nuke in a floor full of arachnotrons. Past experiences with floors full of arachnotrons told me NOPE, so I left the floor the moment I found the exit stairs. Other highlights included finding an onyx mod pack and making indestructible blue armour.
So yeah, that's pretty much my first win.
