I was always used to the ASCII, but I recently learned of the mode with tiles, and I've come to enjoy that even more.

I was actually going to make a topic regarding this as well.  I'd think modifying the text wouldn't be that hard, since maybe the pronoun could be made a variable based on the gender chosen.  But if it's not possible for now, then I won't push it.
