That, uh, sorta defeats the point.
Why is dialogue needed? There's no guaranteed points that the player will go through, except the first level and the last one - And, well, going by Doom the only 'people' that our marine meets are, well, only former people.
Even for other RLs, the most 'plot based' ones are ADOM and ... Heck, probably IVAN? And they do about all you *can* do. Put some story fragments out there, but not make them required. As that takes some of the fun out of the game.

Well wait a sec, what about ToME? ToME has lots of questing (which is what it looks like you guys are talking about), and it works out fine.

Was actually kinda funny.. I thought the level was cleared so I was holding down the move button, and this former human starts chasing me at full speed blasting at me =P



Edit: Darn..sorry..I took the Forum-coded screenshot and posted that one, I already moved and killed the former so I can't take another screenshot =[   Basically the dungeon name turned blue suddenly and there were still 2 more formers left.

I usually work for Int(3) as soon as I can get it.

SoG(2) > DG > EE(2) > Int(3) > Cat(2) > EE > SoG is my usual route.

Int(3)'s saved my butt more than once.

Ya but I've beaten the game with Int 3 before. I don't find it as exciting cause you already know where all the mobs are; it seems too easy.

Haha, I asked in another thread if eagle eye was all that worth it. Someone told me that Pistols have a great accuracy already. Is it worth it to get EE though? I mean what would I give up in place of EE?

I was doing great to be honest, I had so much armor, so many healing packs, and I thought i was doing fine for ammo but when it came to 3 stacks left, I hadn't found anymore drops for ammo =[ seems to spawn much less in later levels. So I just tried running until I could find some ammo. The only thing I could find was a bunch of former captains surrounded by Arch-Viles, ammo guarded by Arachnotrons, and some more former captains surrounded by a bunch of Hell Barons and Mancubus's X_x there was no chance.

I know this is an old post but I was just about to write this up in the request for features: I think having more episodes would be a great idea - I mean I love DoomRL but sometimes it gets boring doing the same maps over and over again. I know, Kornel you have a life too, but maybe there's some way the community could help out by making new monsters and maps and such. You have a great fanbase, I'm sure your fans would be more than willing to help out.

I myself (not worried about the idea being "taken" since my version will be different from someone else's and vice versa) plan on doing a couple Quake TCs. As well as doing something like Quake 3 that incorporates enemies, items, weapons, and characters from all the Quake games, Doom games, and Wolf games.

When I saw that we might be able to mod DoomRL soon the first thing that came to my mind was QuakeRL =P although I was thinking Quake 1, but I'm sure a bunch of other people had that in mind too. I'm more interested in playing it than making it though, so I may just lay back and wait for someone else to make it, or help someone else make it.

Chances are this is a bug that you should be reporting to ID, since this is the reason they're releasing beta. Just report the problem and they'll probably fix it up. If there's any other keys you need to disable for firefox, I'd just type up - "Disable _____ Key" +Firefox

Hey guys, I've been playing DoomRL a lot lately, and I've been trying various strategies and tactics in my games; one of which is trying to figure out if a lever is beneficial or not. I think that levers are set up based on some algorithm, not just randomly - if this is true then it should be possible to guess the benefits of a lever without having to spend points in EE and Int. So far I've tested supply rooms (those really small rooms with a lot of enemies inside, and lots of rewards like armor, ammo and med packs), every time I've tried using the levers in those rooms they've proven to help me somehow. Does anybody here know about any of the other levers, or any other tricks in the area? Thanks =]

What a joke: I just spawned a few tiles away from the Cyberdemon, so every time he shot me he'd hit himself. I'd just keep shooting him, and every time I got low I'd just re-heal.

Was surprisingly easy at the end. Just kept nuking him with BFG. I found that all D traits and running around in Aggressive really helped.
