Bug Reports / Refuses to run on Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64

Trying to run the main DoomRL executable give me this error message:

/home/USERNAME/doomrl-linux-09810/doomrl: error while loading shared libraries: libsmpeg-0.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This still occurs after using Synaptic Package manager to download libsmpeg.

Trying any of the other shell scripts results in the same error message:

set: 2: Illegal option -

I admit to being fairly new to Linux, so I'm probably forgetting something obvious.
