I would have normally gone for Vampyre but I wanted to get the one remaining missing assembly that didn't require any exotic mod packs (double chainsaw) and I figured an AoB run would be good time to do it.
I did manage to assemble the double chainsaw  - right before Unholy Cathedral. Then I got WK2 so I could at least mod the assembly to make it a little better but nope. I guess I should have had WK2 before making the assembly or be a technician or something...
And after that I didn't have time to get to Vampyre anymore.

Before this the farthest I had ever gotten on AoB was level 5 so this was quite an improvement!

I gave up on trying for 100% when the RNG gave me a acid river with the only bridge blocked by lava. It didn't really matter much as I later encountered a vault full of arachnotrons and two levels with mancubus/archvile packs.

This was also my first serious attempt in clearing the Lava pits as I finally had enough envirosuit packs and Cerberus boots just to be sure :D
I killed everything else, charged at the Lava elemental - and it teleported away just when I got next to it. Charged again - and again it teleported away right when I close enough for a strike.
At this point I figured that was how the Lava elemental worked and as I was quickly running out of medpacks I ran away. After the game I checked the wiki and looks like I had just been really unlucky with the teleports....

When I entered the final level I only had 27% with one large medpack left but it was enough. Woohoo!

Now I'm one silver badge away from 1st Lieutenant and already have 6 gold badges but amusingly I still haven't gotten past level 5 on HMP :D

Hmm, I think there's a little mistake in the keybindings help screen:

'f' -- Alternative Fire of equipped weapon (if available)
'F' -- Special fire weapon (depending on weapon)


Isn't f the normal fire command?

Requests For Features / Half-seen squares

Hmm, a small idea just popped in my head.

I'm a total newbie in DoomRL and currently trying to wrap my mind around cornershooting. It's an interesting and fun tactic but currently it's far from obvious when it can be used (and it wasn't exactly intuitive that it was even possible in the first place).

Currently the game shows everything in your LOS normally and all the squares you've previously seen as dark grey.
What if there were was a different shade used for squares you can 'half see' (i.e. can safely shoot at)?

This would take away the guessing and make it easy to learn the 'sweet spots'.

I'm not sure how this should work for the squares with enemies, though.
Just show them normally? (i.e. player can still use the color of the surrounding empty squares as estimate)
Make a similar color change for the enemies? (could cause confusion)
Use a separate 'half-seen enemy' symbol? (possibly too big a change from current)

Don't know if this is a good idea or not but I'm throwing it out here anyway...

Well, I do remember that if you stood at a high ledge, monsters far below you could still hit you with melee attacks.
Likewise you could activate buttons that should have been too high or too low for you to reach.

Don't know if it was more lame or amusing...
