Would be nice if uppon death the mortems are archived on a folder with filenames made using the player name and his date of death

I agree. All too often, a good mortem of mine gets wiped away!

Thirded.

I feel it would be better though if the top 10 or so ones were accessible from inside the game.

Hah, pull a nethack where some demon randomly ropes you into conversation: "Hey, did you hear about (insert badass marine here)?  He totally pwned 14 levels of hell-infested Mars base and then was eaten by a Baron!"

Or is that not what you meant by accessible in game? :)

Btw, I dig the folder idea

What about this : After about 15 entries to your mortem, every few marines have a chance of appearing in your game as a former! A former-human with POWER BABY!!!

Bones files for DoomRL. That could be scary.

Imagine walking into the Phobos Arena to take down the Cyberdeamon... to face off against both the big baddie AND a former incarnation of yourself in a suit of red armor and pointing a BFG in your general direction...

I mean that in a main menu there would be a highscores option, With the potential to view the top mortems.

Thats not how bones files work.

They work by stripping your character of all his items, But he retains magic skills.

So lets just say you would have a heavily muscled ghost with the power to launch minor rockets or something.

Would be great for an special level... a deadlier version of the Hell's Arena with your former characters armed with plasma guns and stuff depending on the level they died on.

Eh, I was just using jimmyj's former marine and calling it a bones file, since that'd be the closest thing.

Though what you're describing sounds just like a revenant. Hm...

So THAT'S why all my ghosts seem to be wimps...

Nice! Perhaps the general level of the former marines should be around the level of the player? Perhaps slightly adjusted so that it's very hard, but doable.

It needs a good name though... Halls of the Forgotten?

I recall there was a Doom II mod (a 'hack' technically) that gave plasma rifles, rocket launchers and BFG to former humans and imps. It was fun, but completing even the first level was quite a challenge (I didn't knew about BFG FOV 'feature' at the time)...

Hmm, could've sworn i posted here, but i guess i only talked about it on the chat..

Anyway, i'd like such a feature, and the bones files idea looks fun too. Except when it's implemented like nethack and you get all the stuff the former PC had. But when he has a bit of equipment based on the level you encounter him on it could be challenging and fun, without disrupting the inventory management too much.
